This paper introduces a straightforward sieve-based approach for estimating and conducting inference on regression parameters in panel data models with interactive fixed effects. The method's key assumption is that factor loadings can be decomposed into an unknown smooth function of individual characteristics plus an idiosyncratic error term. Our estimator offers advantages over existing approaches by taking a simple partial least squares form, eliminating the need for iterative procedures or preliminary factor estimation. In deriving the asymptotic properties, we discover that the limiting distribution exhibits a discontinuity that depends on how well our basis functions explain the factor loadings, as measured by the variance of the error factor loadings. This finding reveals that conventional ``plug-in'' methods using the estimated asymptotic covariance can produce excessively conservative coverage probabilities. We demonstrate that uniformly valid non-conservative inference can be achieved through the cross-sectional bootstrap method. Monte Carlo simulations confirm the estimator's strong performance in terms of mean squared error and good coverage results for the bootstrap procedure. We demonstrate the practical relevance of our methodology by analyzing growth rate determinants across OECD countries.
交互固定效应面板模型的设定检验
In this paper, we propose a consistent nonparametric test for linearity in a large dimensional panel data model with interactive fixed effects. Both lagged dependent variables and conditional heteroskedasticity of unknown form are allowed in the model. We estimate the model under the null hypothesis of linearity to obtain the restricted residuals which are then used to construct the test statistic. We show that after being appropriately centered and standardized, the test…
交互固定效应面板模型中的同质性检验
This paper proposes a residual-based Lagrange Multiplier (LM) test for slope homogeneity in large-dimensional panel data models with interactive fixed effects. We first run the panel regression under the null to obtain the restricted residuals and then use them to construct our LM test statistic. We show that after being appropriately centered and scaled, our test statistic is asymptotically normally distributed under the null and a sequence of Pitman local alternatives. The…
交互效应异质性空间动态面板模型的IV估计
This paper develops a Mean Group Instrumental Variables (MGIV) approach for spatial dynamic panel data models with interactive effects, under large N and T asymptotics. Unlike existing approaches that typically impose slope-parameter homogeneity, MGIV accommodates cross-sectional heterogeneity in slope coefficients. The proposed estimator is linear, making it computationally efficient and robust. Furthermore, it enables asymptotically valid inferences without requiring bias…
含交互固定效应的固定 T 面板门槛回归
This paper develops a new toolbox for estimation and inference in panel data threshold regression models with interactive fixed effects and a fixed number of time periods, T. The toolbox is designed to be simple, accurate and computationally efficient. It is based on a simple least squares style estimator of the model parameters, and includes a number of inferential procedures for testing hypotheses regarding not only the threshold but also other parameters. The new toolbox…
含个体、时间及交互效应的短期动态面板模型
Summary This paper proposes a transformed quasi‐maximum likelihood (TQML) estimator for short dynamic fixed effects panel data models allowing for interactive effects through a multifactor error structure. The proposed estimator is robust to the heterogeneity of the initial values and common unobserved effects, while at the same time allowing for standard fixed and time effects. It is applicable to both stationary and unit root cases. The order condition for identification…
非参数动态面板模型:核估计与设定检验
Motivated by the first-differencing method for linear panel data models, we propose a class of iterative local polynomial estimators for nonparametric dynamic panel data models with or without exogenous regressors. The estimators utilize the additive structure of the first-differenced model—the fact that the two additive components have the same functional form, and the unknown function of interest is implicitly defined as a solution of a Fredholm integral equation of the…
