We consider nonparametric identification of independent private value first-price auction models, in which the analyst only observes winning bids. Our benchmark model assumes an exogenous number of bidders N. We show that, if the bidders observe N, the resulting discontinuities in the winning bid density can be used to identify the distribution of N. The private value distribution can be nonparametrically identified in a second step. This extends, under testable identification conditions, to the case where N is a number of potential buyers, who bid with some unknown probability. Identification also holds in presence of additive unobserved heterogeneity drawn from some parametric distributions.

利用成交价格进行有限样本拍卖推断
We first provide inference on the quantile function of the bid distribution in firstprice or descending auctions, and the quantile function of the value distribution in second-price or ascending auctions, with a known number of bidders with symmetric independent private values. Specifically, we provide finite-sample, nonparametric, tuning parameter-free, uniform confidence bands for these quantile functions when observing only the transaction price. We also show how these…
BLP 模型中的条件矩估计与推断
The random-coefficient demand model of Berry, Levinsohn, and Pakes (1995) is commonly estimated by the generalized method of moments (GMM), using an unconditional moment restriction with a fixed set of instruments. Identification of the model, however, rests on a conditional moment restriction. The two are not equivalent: the unconditional restriction may admit additional parameter values. We construct a counterexample in which the model is identified by the conditional…
非可分双边关系回归
This paper studies a nonseparable model for dyadic outcomes, such as bilateral trade flows, in which the outcome depends on both agents' characteristics and on a scalar unobservable through an unknown function increasing in that unobservable. I establish identification of a normalized structural function and the error distribution, propose kernel plug-in estimators, and derive a two-regime central limit theory under dyadic dependence in which a shared-agent variance…
无排除限制时利用分布变动进行识别
This paper studies identification and inference in a triangular system with an endogenous regressor when exclusion restrictions are unavailable and the dependence between structural disturbances is modeled through an unrestricted control function. In this setting, standard orthogonality conditions do not deliver point identification, as the unknown control function can rationalize a wide range of structural coefficients. We show that identifying information can be extracted…
非可分第一阶段下加性可分三角模型的闭式估计与一致推断
This paper studies the nonparametric identification and estimation of additively separable triangular models with continuous endogenous and instrumental variables, allowing for a nonseparable first-stage equation. Under the independence of instrumental variables and unobservables, we show that the outcome function possesses a closed-form expression as a functional of conditional cumulative distribution functions. The resulting plug-in estimators require no regularization and…
