Motivated by a breast cancer study, we consider regression analysis of interval-censored failure time data in the presence of a random change point. Although a great deal of literature on interval-censored data has been established, there does not seem to exist an established method that can allow for the existence of random change points. Such data can occur in, for example, clinical trials where the risk of a disease may dramatically change when some biological indexes of the human body exceed certain thresholds. To fill the gap, we will first consider regression analysis of such data under a class of linear transformation models and provide a sieve maximum likelihood estimation procedure. Then a penalized method is proposed for simultaneous estimation and variable selection, and the asymptotic properties of the proposed method are established. An extensive simulation study is conducted and indicates that the proposed methods work well in practical situations. The approaches are applied to the real data from the breast cancer study mentioned above. Supplementary materials for this article are available online, including a standardized description of the materials available for reproducing the work.

In this paper, we study the model selection and structure specification for the generalised semi-varying coefficient models (GSVCMs), where the number of potential covariates is allowed to be larger than the sample size. We first propose a penalised likelihood method with the LASSO penalty function to obtain the preliminary estimates of the functional coefficients. Then, using the quadratic approximation for the local log-likelihood function and the adaptive group LASSO…

We propose a Targeted Highly Adaptive Lasso for estimation of non-pathwise differentiable functional parameters such as the dose-response curve (DRC) for continuous exposure. We assume the target function lies in the $k$-th order smoothness class used to define the $k$-th order Highly Adaptive Lasso (HAL), which can be well approximated by linear spans of $k$-th order spline basis functions. We construct a projection of the true target function onto a large finite…

Empirical Bayes (EB) estimators can match the first-order asymptotic risk of maximum likelihood (ML) while behaving very differently at second order: recent excess mean squared error (XMSE) analysis shows that kernel-based EB estimation may be worse than ML when the kernel is poorly aligned with the true parameter. This paper turns that diagnostic into a design principle. We propose an XMSE-aware mixed estimator that interpolates between ML and EB shrinkage. Its fixed-weight…
弱矩方法用于统计推断:兼论稳健估计应用
A companion paper develops a generalised framework in which a probability law is represented by a tempered distribution $T\in\mathcal{S}'$ - on the same footing as a density or characteristic function - and information is extracted by pairing $T$ with a positive Schwartz kernel $\varphi$ that acts as a measurement instrument rather than as part of the law; the resulting weak moments of all orders exist unconditionally. The present paper turns this into a methodology for…
HAL-MLE 对数样条密度估计(第一部分:单变量)
We study nonparametric maximum likelihood estimation of probability densities under a total variation (TV) type penalty, sectional variation norm (also named as Hardy-Krause variation). TV regularization has a long history in regression and density estimation, including results on $L^2$ and KL divergence convergence rates. Here, we revisit this task using the Highly Adaptive Lasso (HAL) framework. We formulate a HAL-based maximum likelihood estimator (HAL-MLE) using the…

Motivated by empirical studies investigating treatment effects in survival analysis, we propose a bivariate transformation model to quantify the impact of a binary treatment on a time-to-event outcome. The model equations are connected through a bivariate Gaussian distribution, with the dependence parameter capturing unobserved confounding, and are specified as functions of additive predictors to flexibly account for the impacts of observed confounders. Moreover, the…
