High-dimensional quantile regressions are powerful tools for capturing the diverse relationships between predictors and response variables across different quantile levels. However, existing feature screening methods for quantile regressions often rely on restrictive model assumptions, limiting their applicability in complex data settings. In this paper, we propose a novel model-free feature screening framework for high-dimensional quantile regressions, leveraging a novel statistical measure called Copula Quantile Dependence. This measure quantifies the functional dependence between predictors and the response variable at a given quantile level without requiring a predefined model structure. Building on this concept, we develop the Quantile Copula-based Screening (QC-Screen) method, which ranks features based on their Copula Quantile Dependence values and selects the most informative ones. We also introduce a data-driven procedure named QC-FDR to control the False Discovery Rate (FDR) while ensuring the inclusion of significant predictors. We establish the theoretical properties of QC-Screen, proving its sure screening and rank consistency properties, and demonstrate that QC-FDR asymptotically controls FDR at the desired level. Extensive simulations and a real-world economic data analysis confirm the superior empirical performance of QC-Screen and QC-FDR, highlighting their effectiveness in high-dimensional quantile regressions.
条件分位数限制识别参数的一致推断
Many structural and dynamic economic models imply that key parameters are identified by conditional quantile restrictions. Building on the exponential-weighting approach of Bierens (1990) and recent advances in penalized maximum statistics for conditional moment restrictions (Chen et al., 2025), we develop a unified inference framework for such parameters. We propose an adaptive $\ell_1$-penalized supremum statistic that transforms the conditional restriction into a…

We study counterfactual distribution learning for high-dimensional outcomes whose laws may concentrate near lower-dimensional structure. Standard isotropic smoothing ignores this geometry, leading to unfavorable scaling and unstable local inference. We propose semiparametrically debiased, diffusion-guided estimators for smoothed counterfactual densities and their scores. These estimators combine causal nuisance adjustment with geometry-adaptive localization driven by a…
lpcde:局部多项式条件密度估计与推断
This paper discusses the R package lpcde, which stands for local polynomial conditional density estimation. It implements the kernel-based local polynomial smoothing methods introduced in Cattaneo, Chandak, Jansson, Ma (2024) for statistical estimation and inference of conditional distributions, densities, and derivatives thereof. The package offers mean square error optimal bandwidth selection and associated point estimators, as well as uncertainty quantification based on…

Expected shortfall (ES) has emerged as an important metric for characterizing the tail behavior of a random outcome, specifically associated with rarer events that entail severe consequences. In climate science, the threats of flooding and heatwaves loom large, impacting natural environments and human communities. In actuarial studies, a key observation in modeling insurance claim sizes is that features exhibit distinct effects in explaining small and large claims. This…

Learning causal effects of a binary exposure on time-to-event endpoints can be challenging because survival times may be partially observed due to censoring and systematically biased due to truncation. In this work, we present debiased machine learning-based nonparametric estimators of the joint distribution of a counterfactual survival time and baseline covariates for use when the observed data are subject to covariate-dependent left truncation and right censoring and when…

This study proposes a new class of heterogeneous causal quantities, referred to as outcome-conditioned average structural derivatives (OASDs), in a general nonseparable model. An OASD is the average partial effect of a marginal change in a continuous treatment on individuals located on different parts of an outcome distribution, irrespective of individuals’ characteristics. We show that OASDs extend the unconditional quantile partial effects (UQPE) proposed by Firpo, Fortin,…
