We investigate the spatial dependence between commercial and residential mortgage defaults. A new class of observation-driven frailty factor models is introduced to do so. The idea of dynamic parameters embedded in the class of GAS models is utilized to estimate dynamic models of default risk with potentially multiple factors which are driven by stratified grouping of large panels of mortgage loan records. The score dynamics in the models is driven by so-called generalized residuals, and have therefore a fairly intuitive interpretation of ARMA-like dynamics. The asymptotic analysis recognizes the fact that we deal with both cross-sectional and time series data features. The proposed models are computationally easy to implement and therefore attractive in big data applications, something that gives them a considerable advantage in comparison to the typical latent factor frailty models proposed in the literature. Our empirical analysis demonstrates strong spatial dependence between commercial default and residential defaults.
含共同因子的大型动态面板模型的估计效率
This paper deals with asymptotically efficient estimation in exchangeable nonlinear dynamic panel models with common unobservable factors. These models are relevant for applications to large portfolios of credits, corporate bonds, or life insurance contracts. For instance, the Asymptotic Risk Factor (ARF) model is recommended in the current regulation in Finance (Basel II and Basel III) and Insurance (Solvency II) for risk prediction and computation of the required capital.…
用于估计与分解违约风险的非高斯面板时间序列模型
We model 1981–2005 quarterly default frequencies for a panel of U.S. firms in different rating and age classes from the Standard and Poor database. The data are decomposed into systematic and firm-specific risk components, where the systematic component reflects the general economic conditions and the default climate. We need to cope with: the shared exposure of each age cohort, industry, and rating class to the same systematic risk factor; strongly non-Gaussian features of…
同质结构下的面板分位数 GARCH 模型
Empirical evidence indicates that the estimates of GARCH parameters cluster in a panel of financial assets, potentially due to assets with similar exposure to common market risks. To capture the subgroup effect on conditional quantiles of financial asset returns and improve estimation efficiency by pooling information across individuals within the same group, this article introduces the panel quantile GARCH model with homogeneous structures in the coefficient functions. A…
极端协变量下的二元结果模型:估计与预测
This paper presents a novel semiparametric method to study the effects of extreme events on binary outcomes and subsequently forecast future outcomes. Our approach, based on Bayes' theorem and regularly varying (RV) functions, facilitates a Pareto approximation in the tail without imposing parametric assumptions beyond the tail. We analyze cross-sectional as well as static and dynamic panel data models, incorporate additional covariates, and accommodate the unobserved…

Panel quantile regression models play an essential role in finance, insurance, and risk management applications. However, a direct application of panel regression for extreme conditional quantiles may suffer from a significant estimation uncertainty due to data sparsity on the far tail. We introduce a two-stage method to predict extreme conditional quantiles over cross-sections, which uses panel quantile regression at a selected intermediate level and then extrapolates the…
We address long-standing concerns in the literature on compensating wage differentials: the econometric properties of the estimated value of statistical life (VSL) and the wide range of such estimates. We confront prominent econometric issues using panel data, a more accurate fatality risk measure, and systematic application of panel data estimators. Controlling for measurement error, endogeneity, latent individual heterogeneity possibly correlated with regressors, state…
