We propose a generalized method of moments (GMM) Lagrange multiplier statistic, i.e., the K statistic, that uses a Jacobian estimator based on the continuous updating estimator that is asymptotically uncorrelated with the sample average of the moments. Its asymptotic χ-super-2 distribution therefore holds under a wider set of circumstances, like weak instruments, than the standard full rank case for the expected Jacobian under which the asymptotic χ-super-2 distributions of the traditional statistics are valid. The behavior of the K statistic can be spurious around inflection points and maxima of the objective function. This inadequacy is overcome by combining the K statistic with a statistic that tests the validity of the moment equations and by an extension of Moreira's (2003) conditional likelihood ratio statistic toward GMM. We conduct a power comparison to test for the risk aversion parameter in a stochastic discount factor model and construct its confidence set for observed consumption growth and asset return series. We propose the double robust Lagrange multiplier (DRLM) statistic for testing hypotheses specified on the pseudo-true value of the structural parameters in the generalized method of moments. The pseudo-true value is defined as the minimizer of the population continuous updating objective function and equals the true value of the structural parameter in the absence of misspecification.\nocite{hhy96} The (bounding) chi-squared limiting distribution of the DRLM statistic is…
弱识别下的广义矩估计
This paper develops asymptotic distribution theory for GMM estimators and test statistics when some or all of the parameters are weakly identified. General results are obtained and are specialized to two important cases: linear instrumental variables regression and Euler equations estimation of the CCAPM. Numerical results for the CCAPM demonstrate that weak-identification asymptotics explains the breakdown of conventional GMM procedures documented in previous Monte Carlo…
识别失败与模型设定正确性的协调检验
We develop a specification test for GMM and Minimum Distance (MD) inference that is: (i) robust to weak identification; (ii) easy to implement and broadly applicable; and (iii) has meaningful power. Our specification test is based on a conditional inference approach: information about the existence of strongly identified directions in the parameter space is exploited to define a data-dependent critical value, which, in turn, increases the power of the resulting specification…

We propose the double robust Lagrange multiplier (DRLM) statistic for testing hypotheses specified on the minimizer of the population continuous updating objective function. The (bounding) χ 2 limiting distribution of the DRLM statistic is robust to both misspecification and weak identification, hence its name. The minimizer is the so‐called pseudo‐true value, which equals the true value of the structural parameter under correct specification. To emphasize its importance for…
线性模型的欠识别检验及其动态面板与资产定价应用
This paper develops the links between overidentification tests, underidentification tests, score tests and the Cragg and Donald (1993, 1997) and Kleibergen and Paap (2006) rank tests in linear instrumental variable (IV) models. For the structural linear model y=Xβ+u, with the endogenous explanatory variables partitioned as X=x1X2, this general framework shows that standard underidentification tests are tests for overidentification in an auxiliary linear model, x1=X2δ+ɛ,…
多因子线性资产定价模型 GMM 估计中的效率与定价精度权衡
Even though a multi-factor linear asset pricing model can be equivalently represented in a Beta or in a stochastic discount factor (SDF) form, its inferential efficiency and pricing accuracy features may differ when estimated by the generalized method of moments (GMM), both in small and in large samples. We derive the analytical asymptotic variance of the Beta and the SDF estimators under GMM and find that the SDF approach is likely to be less efficient but to yield more…
