We propose a unified Kernel Minimum Distance (KMD) framework for estimating and testing models defined by conditional moment restrictions. By embedding conditional moments into a Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Space (RKHS), we construct a closed-form $V$-statistic objective function that quantifies the distance from the restrictions. We establish the $\sqrt{n}$-consistency and asymptotic normality of the associated minimum distance estimator. Within this framework, the minimized objective function naturally yields a consistent omnibus specification test. Unlike projection-based methods that require auxiliary nonparametric estimation for Neyman orthogonalization, our test inherently captures the estimation effect via a projected kernel structure. We derive asymptotic properties of the test statistics under the null hypothesis, the alternative hypothesis, and a sequence of local alternatives converging to the null at the parametric rate $n^{-1/2}$. The validity of a computationally simple multiplier bootstrap is established to facilitate inference. Simulation results demonstrate robust finite-sample performance, and the framework is illustrated by analyzing Engel curves using UK Family Expenditure Survey data.
核设定检验的数据驱动调参:选择渐近理论、有效性与功效
We develop model checks for conditional moment restrictions whose tuning parameters, the kernel bandwidth and the regularization level, are selected by cross-validation. The tests regress the estimated residuals on the covariates via kernel ridge regression (KRR), yielding a coefficient function in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS) that vanishes under the null and is nonzero for any misspecification not annihilated by the Neyman projection. Our central contribution…
协变量漂移下的非参数拟合优度检验
This paper develops procedures for nonparametric goodness-of-fit testing under covariate shift, where labelled data are drawn from a source population but goodness-of-fit is evaluated for a target population. The distribution mismatch is quantified by either a bounded moment condition or a sub-exponential tail condition on the target-to-source density ratio. Our method combines truncated importance-weighting kernel ridge regression with a multiplier bootstrap to construct…
条件矩限制的局部稳健核设定检验
We develop kernel-based specification tests for semiparametric conditional moment models with high-dimensional nuisance parameters, extending existing conditional moment tests---which typically require asymptotically linear nuisance estimators---to accommodate modern machine-learning methods. The proposed locally robust kernel tests combine Neyman-orthogonal moments, cross-fitting, and reproducing kernel Hilbert space methods, yielding inference that is first-order…
学生化中位数的 m-out-of-n 自助估计:中心极限定理与 Edgeworth 展开
The m-out-of-n bootstrap, originally proposed by Bickel, Gotze, and Zwet (1992), approximates the distribution of a statistic by repeatedly drawing m subsamples (with m much smaller than n) without replacement from an original sample of size n. It is now routinely used for robust inference with heavy-tailed data, bandwidth selection, and other large-sample applications. Despite its broad applicability across econometrics, biostatistics, and machine learning, rigorous…
谱密度函数的实用区间估计方法
The spectral density function can play a key role in time series analysis, where nonparametric interval estimation of the spectral density is a fundamental issue. However, the prevailing pointwise interval methods for spectral densities, including chi-square approximation and frequency domain bootstrap (FDB), can be misleading in practice, perhaps more so than appreciated, as confidence intervals often exhibit low coverage accuracy as well as high sensitivity to tuning…
用于模型检验的高斯过程方法
This paper proposes a Gaussian process (GP) approach for testing conditional moment restrictions. Tests are based on squared Neyman orthogonal function-parametric processes integrated with respect to a GP distribution. This methodology leads to a general unified framework of kernel-based tests having the following properties: (i) bootstrap tests are easy to implement in the presence of nuisance parameters (they are simple quadratic forms, and there is no need to reestimate…
