A realized tail-risk conditional autoregressive expectile (RTCARE) model is proposed for joint forecasting of value-at-risk (VaR) and expected shortfall (ES). Realized tail measures such as the realized quantile and the realized ES, constructed from intraday high-frequency returns, are incorporated into the dynamics and measurement equations of the conditional expectile, allowing information about lower-tail risk to enter the forecasts. The parameters are estimated by Markov chain Monte Carlo, and we evaluate the resulting VaR-ES forecasts in numerical examples and in an empirical application using U.S. stock-return data. Across the considered tail levels, the RTCARE models deliver competitive and often superior forecasting performance relative to existing alternatives, with stable results across Monte Carlo replications and rolling forecast evaluations.

We introduce inference methods for score decompositions, which partition scoring functions for predictive assessment into three interpretable components: miscalibration, discrimination, and uncertainty. Our estimation and inference relies on a linear recalibration of the forecasts and is applicable to general point forecasts such as means and quantiles due to its validity for non-smooth scoring functions. This approach ensures non-negative decomposition terms in finite…
FARS:R 中的因子增广回归情景分析
In the context of macroeconomic/financial time series, the FARS package provides a comprehensive framework in R for the construction of conditional densities of the variable of interest based on the factor-augmented quantile regressions (FA-QRs) methodology, with the factors extracted from multi-level dynamic factor models (ML-DFMs) with potential overlapping group-specific factors. Furthermore, the package also allows the construction of measures of risk as well as modeling…

We develop a Quantile Bayesian Vector Autoregression (QBVAR) to forecast real oil prices across different quantiles of the conditional distribution. The model allows predictor effects to vary across quantiles, capturing asymmetries that standard mean-focused approaches miss. Using monthly data from 1975 to 2025, we document three findings. First, the QBVAR improves median forecasts by 2-5\% relative to Bayesian VARs, demonstrating that quantile-specific dynamics matter even…

Macro-prudential policymakers face a risk-management problem: they must assess medium-term downside risks to the real economy stemming from financial imbalances and the associated threat of future financial crises, while accounting for the cost of policy interventions in terms of foregone upside potential. This trade-off between limiting downside risks and preserving upside growth is inherently asymmetric and depends on the distribution of future macroeconomic outcomes. We…

ABSTRACT Words matter for predicting tail risks. We propose an attention mechanism embedded in a quantile factor model, yielding information that is quantile‐specific, target‐specific, and horizon‐specific. We establish new asymptotic results and show empirically that targeted textual data improve quantile forecasts of exchange‐rate returns and industrial production growth relative to strong benchmarks and other conditional‐quantile models. Bigrams and trigrams drive these…

Accurate computation of robust estimates for extremal quantiles of empirical distributions is an essential task for a wide range of applicative fields, including economic policymaking and the financial industry. Such estimates are particularly critical in calculating risk measures, such as Growth-at-Risk (GaR). % and Value-at-Risk (VaR). This work proposes a conformal framework to estimate calibrated quantiles, and presents an extensive simulation study and a real-world…
