We investigate a new separable nonparametric model for time series, which includes many autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic (ARCH) models and autoregressive (AR) models already discussed in the literature. We also propose a new estimation procedure called LIVE, or local instrumental variable estimation, that is based on a localization of the classical instrumental variable method. Our method has considerable computational advantages over the competing marginal integration or projection method. We also consider a more efficient two-step likelihood-based procedure and show that this yields both asymptotic and finite-sample performance gains. This paper is based on Chapter 2 of the first author's Ph.D. dissertation from Yale University. We thank Wolfgang Härdle, Joel Horowitz, Peter Phillips, and Dag Tjøstheim for helpful discussions. We are also grateful to Donald Andrews and two anonymous referees for valuable comments. 半参数 IGARCH(1,1) 模型的估计
We propose a semiparametric IGARCH model that allows for persistence in variance but also allows for more flexible functional form. We assume that the difference of the squared process is weakly stationary. We propose an estimation strategy based on the nonparametric instrumental variable method. We establish the rate of convergence of our estimator.
一般时间序列模型的一种稳健推断新方法
In this article, we propose a novel logistic quasi-maximum likelihood estimation (LQMLE) for general parametric time series models. Compared to the classical Gaussian QMLE and existing robust estimations, it enjoys many distinctive advantages, such as robustness in respect of distributional misspecification and heavy-tailedness of the innovation, more resiliency to outliers, smoothness and strict concavity of the log logistic quasi-likelihood function, and boundedness of the…
预测回归的新稳健推断方法
We propose a robust inference method for predictive regression models under heterogeneously persistent volatility as well as endogeneity, persistence, or heavy-tailedness of regressors. This approach relies on two methodologies, nonlinear instrumental variable estimation and volatility correction, which are used to deal with the aforementioned characteristics of regressors and volatility, respectively. Our method is simple to implement and is applicable both in the case of…
扩散Copula:识别与估计
We propose a new semiparametric approach for modelling nonlinear univariate diffusions, where the observed process is a nonparametric transformation of an underlying parametric diffusion (UPD). This modelling strategy yields a general class of semiparametric Markov diffusion models with parametric dynamic copulas and nonparametric marginal distributions. We provide primitive conditions for the identification of the UPD parameters together with the unknown transformations…
含测量误差时间序列的持续性与自相关函数估计
An economic time series can often be viewed as a noisy proxy for an underlying economic variable. Measurement errors will influence the dynamic properties of the observed process and may conceal the persistence of the underlying time series. In this paper we develop instrumental variable (IV) methods for extracting information about the latent process. Our framework can be used to estimate the autocorrelation function of the latent volatility process and a key persistence…
弱 GARCH 表示的估计
The classical definitions of GARCH-type processes rely on strong assumptions on the first two conditional moments. The common practice in empirical studies, however, has been to test for GARCH by detecting serial correlations in the squared regression errors. This can be problematic because such autocorrelation structures are compatible with severe misspecifications of the standard GARCH. Numerous examples are provided in the paper. In consequence, standard (quasi-) maximum…
