Expectiles are tail-sensitive distributional summaries with important applications in financial risk measurement and forecasting, yet statistical theory for their online estimation from dependent data remains limited. We study a one-pass, stochastic-gradient algorithm with constant learning rate $γ$ for estimating the marginal expectile of a stationary causal process. The recursion admits a unique stationary causal solution and geometrically forgets its initialization. Under short-range dependence, its last iterate is asymptotically Gaussian at the $\sqrtγ$ scale, with variance governed by the population curvature and the long-run variance of the expectile score. For long-memory linear processes the scale changes to $γ^{β-1/2}\ell(1/γ)$, with a Gaussian limit arising from a fractional Brownian motion integral. We further derive the joint long-memory limit for multiple expectile levels and characterize its limiting covariance structure. Various numerical experiments corroborate the predicted Gaussian approximations and regime-specific fluctuation scales.
无需VaR预测的期望损失E-回测:时间序列模型下的方法
Expected Shortfall (ES) measures the average size of tail losses. Its sequential backtests typically also require a Value-at-Risk (VaR) forecast. We develop two e-backtesting methods using only observed losses and ES forecasts: one for iid losses only and the other for time series under an AR-GARCH conditional VaR structure. Under the stated assumptions, both control false rejections at any stopping time. For the time-series method, validity requires a fixed…
时间序列的生成式预测分布
We propose a flexible framework for modeling the predictive distributions of nonlinear, possibly multivariate time series. Our approach expresses a general predictive distribution in an appropriate generative representation that is based on a folklore result from measure theoretic probability. This representation provides a direct simulation-based approximation to the predictive distribution, enabling straightforward computation of forecasts for the conditional mean and…

We study the asymptotic behaviour of widely used tests for evaluating and comparing predictive accuracy when forecast errors exhibit heavy tails. In particular, when loss differentials have infinite variance, the Diebold-Mariano test statistic converges to a nonstandard limit involving non-Gaussian stable random variables. As a consequence, conventional critical values can yield severely distorted inference: a nominal 5$\%$ test may reject a true null as often as 70$\%$ of…
跨分布预测油价:分位数向量自回归方法
We develop a Quantile Bayesian Vector Autoregression (QBVAR) to forecast real oil prices across different quantiles of the conditional distribution. The model allows predictor effects to vary across quantiles, capturing asymmetries that standard mean-focused approaches miss. Using monthly data from 1975 to 2025, we document three findings. First, the QBVAR improves median forecasts by 2-5\% relative to Bayesian VARs, demonstrating that quantile-specific dynamics matter even…

Market generators using deep generative models have shown promise for synthetic financial data generation, but existing approaches lack causal reasoning capabilities essential for counterfactual analysis and risk assessment. We propose a Time-series Neural Causal Model VAE (TNCM-VAE) that combines variational autoencoders with structural causal models to generate counterfactual financial time series while preserving both temporal dependencies and causal relationships. Our…

In many applied fields, the prediction of more severe events than those already recorded is crucial for safeguarding against potential future calamities. What-if analyses, which evaluate hypothetical scenarios up to the worst-case event, play a key role in assessing the potential impacts of extreme events and guiding the development of effective safety policies. This problem can be analyzed using extreme value theory. We employ the well-established peaks-over-threshold…
