Estimation of time series models with heavy-tailed innovations has been widely discussed, but corresponding goodness-of-fit tests have attracted less attention, primarily because the autocorrelation function commonly used in constructing goodness-of-fit tests necessarily imposes 10 certain moment conditions on the innovations. As a bounded random variable has finite moments of all orders, we address the problem by first transforming the residuals with a bounded function.More specifically, we consider the sample autocorrelation function of the transformed absolute residuals of a fitted generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic model. With the corresponding residual empirical distribution function naturally employed as the transformation, a 15 robust goodness-of-fit test is then constructed. The asymptotic distributions of the test statistic under the null hypothesis and local alternatives are derived, and Monte Carlo experiments are conducted to examine finite-sample properties. The proposed test is shown to be more powerful than existing tests when the innovations are heavy-tailed.
非平稳波动环境下股票收益可预测性的实时监测
Stock return predictability, should it exist, is likely to be episodic in nature. In order to exploit such pockets of predictability it is essential that they are rapidly detected, in real-time, as the nascent predictive regime emerges. This will typically entail the repeated (sequential) application of one-shot end-of-sample predictability statistics, updated as new data become available. Consequently, in addition to dealing with the usual inference problems caused by…
依赖数据下高维矩约束的经验似然方法
Economic and financial models -- such as vector autoregressions, local projections, and multivariate volatility models -- feature complex dynamic interactions and spillovers across many time series. These models can be integrated into a unified framework, with high-dimensional parameters identified by moment conditions. As the number of parameters and moment conditions may surpass the sample size, we propose adding a double penalty to the empirical likelihood criterion to…
动态时空 ARCH 模型
Geo-referenced data are characterized by an inherent spatial dependence due to the geographical proximity. In this paper, we introduce a dynamic spatiotemporal autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (ARCH) process to describe the effects of (i) the log-squared time-lagged outcome variable, i.e., the temporal effect, (ii) the spatial lag of the log-squared outcome variable, i.e., the spatial effect, and (iii) the spatial lag of the log-squared time-lagged outcome…
ARMA–GARCH 模型误差零中位数检验
Because the ARMA–GARCH model can generate data with some important properties such as skewness, heavy tails, and volatility persistence, it has become a benchmark model in analyzing financial and economic data. The commonly employed quasi maximum likelihood estimation (QMLE) requires a finite fourth moment for both errors and the sequence itself to ensure a normal limit. The self-weighted quasi maximum exponential likelihood estimation (SWQMELE) reduces the moment…
时间序列与金融计量经济学前沿:概览
Two of the fastest growing frontiers in econometrics and quantitative finance are time series and financial econometrics. Significant theoretical contributions to financial econometrics have been made by experts in statistics, econometrics, mathematics, and time series analysis. The purpose of this special issue of the journal on “Frontiers in Time Series and Financial Econometrics” is to highlight several areas of research by leading academics in which novel methods have…
重尾时间序列的矩条件检验
We develop an asymptotically chi-squared statistic for testing moment conditions E[mt(θ0)]=0, where mt(θ0) may be weakly dependent, scalar components of mt(θ0) may have an infinite variance, and E[mt(θ)] need not exist for any θ under the alternative. Score tests are a natural application, and in general a variety of tests can be heavy-tail robustified by our method, including white noise, GARCH affects, omitted variables, distribution, functional form, causation, volatility…
