We develop general conditions for rates of convergence and convergence in distribution of iterative procedures for estimating finite-dimensional parameters. An asymptotic contraction mapping condition is the centerpiece of the theory. We illustrate some of the results by deriving the limiting distribution of a two-stage iterative estimator of regression parameters in a semiparametric binary response model. Simulation results illustrating the computational benefits of the first-stage iterative estimator are also reported. We thank a co-editor and two referees for comments and criticisms that led to significant improvements in this paper. We also thank Roger Klein for providing us with Gauss code to compute his estimator.
BLP 模型中的条件矩估计与推断
The random-coefficient demand model of Berry, Levinsohn, and Pakes (1995) is commonly estimated by the generalized method of moments (GMM), using an unconditional moment restriction with a fixed set of instruments. Identification of the model, however, rests on a conditional moment restriction. The two are not equivalent: the unconditional restriction may admit additional parameter values. We construct a counterexample in which the model is identified by the conditional…
内生网络下的半参数动态 Logit 模型
Many choices persist over time and are made among friends. Teenagers who smoke tend to keep smoking, and they tend to have friends who smoke. Part of this persistence is habit, but part may come from characteristics researchers do not observe, such as a taste for risk, that shape both whether a student smokes and whom they befriend. Methods that treat friendships as given cannot separate the two when the characteristic changes over time. This paper shows how the friendship…
存在少报的有序选择模型中的变化中的变化
We develop a Difference-in-Differences framework for discrete, ordered outcomes subject to underreporting. Such outcomes commonly arise in self-reported surveys on socially undesirable or stigmatized behaviors, where respondents may conceal their true behavior. For a discrete Changes-in-Changes model that is shown to admit an equivalent threshold-crossing representation, we derive nonparametric bounds for the counterfactual and factual outcome distributions as well as for…

利用网络数据识别和估计半参数 Logit 模型
This paper studies identification and estimation of a semiparametric logit model in which an unobserved individual characteristic affects both a binary outcome and the formation of social links. In this setting, the endogeneity of the network is informative rather than a nuisance: because the same latent trait drives linking behavior, observed network data can be used to control for unobserved heterogeneity in the outcome equation without imposing a parametric model of link…
分位数限制、揭示排序与多项选择的边界
This paper analyzes when choice probabilities reveal rankings of deterministic utility indices in semiparametric discrete choice models. It begins with binary choice, where quantile thresholds guarantee ranking recovery, and shows that such thresholds can arise either from behavioral departures from utility maximization (e.g., limited attention) under exchangeable unobservables, or from non-exchangeable unobservables under standard utility maximization. These behavioral and…
