This paper jointly addresses the challenges of non-stationarity and high dimensionality in analysing multivariate time series. Building on the classical concept of cointegration, we introduce a more flexible notion, called stability space, aimed at capturing stationary components in settings where traditional assumptions may not hold. Based on the dimensionality reduction techniques of Partial Least Squares and Principal Component Analysis, we proposed two non-parametric procedures for estimating such a space and a targeted selection of components that prioritise stationarity. We compare these alternatives with the parametric Johansen procedure when possible. Through simulations and real-data applications, we evaluated the performance of these methodologies across various scenarios, including high-dimensional configurations where regularisation techniques are explored, considering a sparse version of the Principal Component Analysis.

The modern economic environment is awash in Big Data. The business models of many of today’s largest and most innovative firms, for example, are intimately connected to data collection and processing. Closely related, all of science is now similarly awash in Big Data, due to massive advances in data capture and storage technology, typically in conjunction with the internet.1 Time-series econometrics is no exception, and the time-series community is beginning to confront Big…
马克思主义平均利润率分析的部门排除标准:美国1960—2020年
The long term estimation of the Marxist average rate of profit does not adhere to a theoretically grounded standard regarding which economic activities should or should not be included for such purposes, which is relevant because methodological non uniformity can be a significant source of overestimation or underestimation, generating a less accurate reflection of the capital accumulation dynamics. This research aims to provide a standard Marxist decision criterion regarding…
融合自回归与共同因子的矩阵时间序列框架
Matrix-valued time series are ubiquitous in modern economics and finance, yet modeling them requires navigating a trade-off between flexibility and parsimony. We propose the Matrix Autoregressive model with Common Factors (MARCF), a unified framework for high-dimensional matrix time series that bridges the structural gap between the Matrix Autoregression (MAR) and Matrix Factor Model (MFM). While MAR typically assumes distinct predictor and response subspaces and MFM…
宏观与金融即时预测中的可解释机器学习:面向商业与政策决策的框架
Macroeconomic nowcasting sits at the intersection of traditional econometrics, data-rich information systems, and AI applications in business, economics, and policy. Machine learning (ML) methods are increasingly used to nowcast quarterly GDP growth, but adoption in high-stakes settings requires that predictive accuracy be matched by interpretability and robust uncertainty quantification. This article reviews recent developments in macroeconomic nowcasting and compares…
高维时间序列时变网络的估计
We explore time-varying networks for high-dimensional locally stationary time series, using the large VAR model framework with both the transition and (error) precision matrices evolving smoothly over time. Two types of time-varying graphs are investigated: one containing directed edges of Granger causality linkages, and the other containing undirected edges of partial correlation linkages. Under the sparse structural assumption, we propose a penalised local linear method…

This article establishes a comprehensive theory of the optimality, robustness, and cross-validation selection consistency for the ridge regression under factor-augmented models with possibly dense idiosyncratic information.Using spectral analysis for random matrices, we show that the ridge regression is asymptotically efficient in capturing both factor and idiosyncratic information by minimizing the limiting predictive loss among the entire class of spectral regularized…
