Abstract We introduce a method for estimating multiple class regression models when class membership is uncertain. The procedure— local polynomial regression clustering —first estimates a nonparametric model via local polynomial regression, and then identifies the underlying classes by aggregating sample observations into data clusters with similar estimates of the (local) functional relationships between dependent and independent variables. Finally, parametric functions specific to each class are estimated. The technique is applied to the estimation of a multiple‐class hedonic model for wine, resulting in the identification of four distinct wine classes based on differences in implicit prices of the attributes. We develop a semiparametric continuous time inferential framework for testing cumulative treatment effects, including both immediate and carryover effects. The latent state process is modeled by an ordinary differential equation (ODE) whose drift depends on state and treatment, while the observed data are noisy measurements of this latent state at irregular, multi resolution time points. We define the average treatment effect (ATE) as the difference of expected cumulative…

Many real-world policies and business interventions require assessing short-term effects to inform timely decisions, even though most causal inference methods focus on long-term average treatment effects. In this article, we introduce average treatment effect localization (ATEL), which captures localized, short-term policy impacts in panel data settings with a single treated unit and provides early indicators of policy impact. To accommodate both time-varying and nonlinear…

Many studies expose units to several binary treatments at once and record several correlated outcomes, yet analysts usually estimate one treatment's average effect on one outcome at a time -- discarding how treatments interact and how their effects vary across units. We introduce the factorial multivariate Bayesian causal forest, a Bayesian nonparametric model that decomposes the factorial response surface over the treatment lattice into a prognostic sum-of-trees plus one…
BLP 模型中的条件矩估计与推断
The random-coefficient demand model of Berry, Levinsohn, and Pakes (1995) is commonly estimated by the generalized method of moments (GMM), using an unconditional moment restriction with a fixed set of instruments. Identification of the model, however, rests on a conditional moment restriction. The two are not equivalent: the unconditional restriction may admit additional parameter values. We construct a counterexample in which the model is identified by the conditional…

Panel conditioning, the causal effect of prior survey participation on responses, can vary with tenure. Under an additive model of cell means in period, entry cohort, and tenure, we characterize which features of the conditioning path a staggered panel identifies on its observed support, and how the unidentified component affects common panel estimators. The identified set of the path is an affine translate of the tenure projection of the cell design's kernel, and a linear…

We propose Kernel Embedding Distributional Reinforcement Learning (KE-DRL) an offline method to estimate kernel mean embeddings of conditional multivariate return distributions from observed offline trajectories with continuous state-action inputs and vector-valued rewards. KE-DRL approximates the conditional embedding and estimates its a finite-dictionary representation coefficients through a maximum mean discrepancy Bellman criterion. For a regular class of return…
