This paper develops a doubly robust extension of local-projections difference-in-differences (LP-DiD) for staggered absorbing treatments. The resulting estimator, DRLPDID, preserves the LP-DiD local-stack ATT target and is consistent when either the local untreated-outcome regression or the local treatment-probability model is correctly specified. It also delivers influence-function-based inference for post-treatment summaries and multiplier-bootstrap bands for dynamic paths. In Monte Carlo designs with covariate-driven selection, DRLPDID matches regression-adjusted LP-DiD under outcome-model alignment and clearly outperforms the IPT-only variant under propensity-score misspecification. In the no-fault-divorce application, DRLPDID tracks robust staggered-adoption estimators and is less negative than unadjusted LP-DiD.
Two frequent approaches for identifying structural VARs are external instruments, which carry economic content but are often weak, and non-Gaussianity of the shocks, which provides statistical identification but carries no economic meaning. We combine the two strategies in a single generalized method of moments framework. This hybrid approach point-identifies the target shocks while also identifying the non-target shocks up to sign and ordering. Under suitable rank…

We study temporal assignment design for Markov switchback experiments when the reported object is a dynamic local-projection target. We develop a calibrated selector that chooses the feasible persistence minimizing the covariance, HAC, residual-bootstrap, or realized-schedule risk of the estimator and reporting object specified before the experiment. A balanced homoskedastic Markov benchmark yields a closed form because the lagged-assignment information matrix is…

This article evaluates whether the exceptionally rapid growth of the Russian and Soviet economy after 1928 requires a specifically Stalinist explanation. The analysis treats this historical question as a sequence of increasingly demanding counterfactual comparisons rather than a binary comparison between observed growth and a single alternative. Long run output series from the Global Macro Database and the Maddison Project are combined with synthetic control, augmented…

Major bank mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transform the financial market structure, but their valuation and spillover effects remain open to question. This study examines the market reaction to two M&A events: the 2005 creation of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group following the Financial Big Bang in Japan, and the 2018 merger involving Resona Holdings after the global financial crisis. The multi-method analysis in this research combines several distinct methods to explore these…

We consider point estimation and inference for the treatment effect path of a policy. Examples include dynamic treatment effects in microeconomics, impulse response functions in macroeconomics, and event study paths in finance. We present two sets of plausible bounds to quantify and visualize the uncertainty associated with this object. Both plausible bounds are often substantially tighter than traditional confidence intervals, and can provide useful insights even when…
动态断点回归:事件研究方法
I propose a novel argument to identify economically interpretable intertemporal treatment effects in dynamic regression discontinuity designs (RDDs). Specifically, I develop a dynamic potential outcomes model and reformulate two assumptions from the difference-in-differences literature, no anticipation and common trends, to attain point identification of cutoff-specific impulse responses. The estimand of each target parameter can be expressed as the sum of two static RDD…
