We consider general, and possibly nonparametric, GARCH(1,1) processes. First we give conditions for the existence and the uniqueness of stationary ergodic solutions. Then we identify additional conditions for geometric ergodicity. These conditions consist of mild restrictions on the distribution of the latent independent process. No moment assumption is made on the generalized autoregressive conditionally heteroskedastic (GARCH) process. Applications to the asymptotic behavior of sample autocorrelations and to unit-root tests are proposed. This work was supported by INTAS (research project 03-51-3714). The authors gratefully acknowledge the quick and careful reading of the manuscript by Bruce Hansen and three referees. Their detailed comments led to a greatly improved presentation.
非平稳波动率下的自适应协整检验
This article develops a class of adaptive cointegration tests for multivariate time series with nonstationary volatility. Persistent changes in the innovation variance matrix of a vector autoregressive model lead to size distortions in conventional cointegration tests, which may be resolved using the wild bootstrap, as shown in recent work by Cavaliere, Rahbek, and Taylor. We show that it also leads to the possibility of constructing tests with higher power, by taking the…
平稳分数协整的局部 Whittle 分析及隐含与已实现波动率的关系
I consider local Whittle analysis of a stationary fractionally cointegrated model. The local Whittle quasi maximum likelihood estimator is proposed to jointly estimate the integration orders of the regressors, the integration order of the errors, and the cointegration vector. The proposed estimator is semiparametric in the sense that it employs local assumptions on the joint spectral density matrix of the regressors and the errors near the zero frequency. I show that the…

The association between log-price increments of exchange-traded equities, as measured by their spot correlation estimated from high-frequency data, exhibits a pronounced upwardsloping and almost piecewise linear relationship at the intraday horizon. There is notably lower—on average less positive—correlation in the morning than in the afternoon. We develop a nonparametric testing procedure to detect such variation in a correlation process. The test statistic has a known…
非平稳波动环境下股票收益可预测性的实时监测
Stock return predictability, should it exist, is likely to be episodic in nature. In order to exploit such pockets of predictability it is essential that they are rapidly detected, in real-time, as the nascent predictive regime emerges. This will typically entail the repeated (sequential) application of one-shot end-of-sample predictability statistics, updated as new data become available. Consequently, in addition to dealing with the usual inference problems caused by…
非线性模型时变参数的局部多项式估计
We develop a novel asymptotic theory for local polynomial extremum estimators of time-varying parameters in a broad class of nonlinear time-series models, including discrete-valued ones. We show that the proposed estimators are asymptotically normally distributed under weak conditions. We also provide a precise characterization of the leading bias term due to smoothing. We demonstrate the usefulness of our general results by establishing primitive conditions for local…

We explore how information from covariates can be incorporated into the CUSUM-based real-time monitoring procedure for explosive asset price bubbles developed in Homm and Breitung (2012, Journal of Financial Econometrics 10, 198–231). Where dynamic covariates are present in the data generating process (DGP), the false positive rate (FPR) of the basic CUSUM procedure, which is based on the assumption that prices follow a univariate DGP, under the null of no explosivity will…
