This paper introduces a novel robust high-dimensional inference framework based on partial Gini covariance. We specifically address the practically important problem of quantifying how changes in features affect the conditional mean in high-dimensional linear regression when the random noises are heavy-tailed and possibly asymmetric. Conventional high-dimensional regression inference methods suffer from inaccurate type I errors and reduced power in heavy-tailed contexts. While adaptive Huber regression provides a principled remedy, its effectiveness relies on the careful calibration of robustification parameters that must adapt to sample size, dimensionality, and tail behavior. Our proposed approach leverages the partial Gini covariance to construct a robust statistical inference framework that requires minimal tuning and avoids restrictive moment conditions on error distributions. By circumventing the need for error density estimation, this method enhances both computational feasibility and robustness. Extensive simulations and a real-world data example demonstrate the proposed method’s superior power and robustness over standard high-dimensional inference approaches, such as those based on the debiased Lasso. The asymptotic relative efficiency analysis provides additional theoretical insight on the improved efficiency of the new approach in the heavy-tailed setting. Additionally, the partial Gini covariance extends to the multivariate setting, enabling chi-square testing for a group of coefficients.
高维线性回归的统一谱分析:去偏与阈值化
We use spectral analysis to establish a unified theory of debiasing, thresholding, and simultaneous inference for high-dimensional linear regression with ill-conditioned designs. The methods include Ridge regression, spectral cut-off, and iterative and dynamical regression procedures. A common debiasing procedure uses two applications of the original linear algorithm with fixed parameters. Spectral analysis shows that debiasing squares the residual, while implementations…

Bayesian inference with empirical likelihood faces a challenge as the posterior domain is a proper subset of the original parameter space due to the convex hull constraint. We propose a regularized exponentially tilted empirical likelihood to address this issue. Our method removes the convex hull constraint using a novel regularization technique, incorporating a continuous exponential family distribution to satisfy a Kullback--Leibler divergence criterion. The regularization…

This paper studies the robustness of estimated policy effects to changes in the distribution of covariates, a key determinant of the external validity of (quasi)experimental results. I propose a novel robustness metric δ ∗ which measures the smallest covariate shift needed to invalidate an empirical claim about the policy effect (e.g., AT E > 0). I estimate δ ∗ via de-biased GMM, achieving a parametric rate of convergence while accommodating machine-learning estimators of…

We develop model checks for conditional moment restrictions whose tuning parameters, the kernel bandwidth and the regularization level, are selected by cross-validation. The tests regress the estimated residuals on the covariates via kernel ridge regression (KRR), yielding a coefficient function in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space (RKHS) that vanishes under the null and is nonzero for any misspecification not annihilated by the Neyman projection. Our central contribution…

Many structural and dynamic economic models imply that key parameters are identified by conditional quantile restrictions. Building on the exponential-weighting approach of Bierens (1990) and recent advances in penalized maximum statistics for conditional moment restrictions (Chen et al., 2025), we develop a unified inference framework for such parameters. We propose an adaptive $\ell_1$-penalized supremum statistic that transforms the conditional restriction into a…

This paper develops procedures for nonparametric goodness-of-fit testing under covariate shift, where labelled data are drawn from a source population but goodness-of-fit is evaluated for a target population. The distribution mismatch is quantified by either a bounded moment condition or a sub-exponential tail condition on the target-to-source density ratio. Our method combines truncated importance-weighting kernel ridge regression with a multiplier bootstrap to construct…
