Summary A Bernstein prior is a probability measure on the space of all the distribution functions on [0, 1]. Under very general assumptions, it selects absolutely continuous distribution functions, whose densities are mixtures of known beta densities. The Bernstein prior is of interest in Bayesian nonparametric inference with continuous data. We study the consistency of the posterior from a Bernstein prior. We first show that, under mild assumptions, the posterior is weakly consistent for any distribution function P0 on [0, 1] with continuous and bounded Lebesgue density. With slightly stronger assumptions on the prior, the posterior is also Hellinger consistent. This implies that the predictive density from a Bernstein prior, which is a Bayesian density estimate, converges in the Hellinger sense to the true density (assuming that it is continuous and bounded). We also study a sieve maximum likelihood version of the density estimator and show that it is also Hellinger consistent under weak assumptions. When the order of the Bernstein polynomial, i.e. the number of components in the beta distribution mixture, is truncated, we show that under mild restrictions the posterior concentrates on the set of pseudotrue densities. Finally, we study the behaviour of the predictive density numerically and we also study a hybrid Bayes–maximum likelihood density estimator.
RBF 核高斯过程最大似然估计的精确渐近理论
Gaussian processes (GPs) are widely used across machine learning, spatial statistics, time-series analysis, optimization, Bayesian statistics, and scientific applications. A central component of a GP model is its kernel, which is typically specified through a parametric family. Among the most widely used choices is the radial basis function (RBF), also known as the squared exponential or Gaussian kernel, owing to its simple form, smoothness, and flexibility. In practice, the…
XMSE 感知的自适应经验贝叶斯估计
Empirical Bayes (EB) estimators can match the first-order asymptotic risk of maximum likelihood (ML) while behaving very differently at second order: recent excess mean squared error (XMSE) analysis shows that kernel-based EB estimation may be worse than ML when the kernel is poorly aligned with the true parameter. This paper turns that diagnostic into a design principle. We propose an XMSE-aware mixed estimator that interpolates between ML and EB shrinkage. Its fixed-weight…

The standard asymmetric Laplace framework for Bayesian quantile regression (BQR) suffers from a fundamental decision-theoretic misalignment, yielding biased finite-sample estimates, and precludes gradient-based computation due to non-smoothness. We propose Bayesian smoothed quantile regression (BSQR), a principled framework built on a kernel-smoothed, fully differentiable likelihood. Methodologically, the symmetrizing property of our objective reduces inferential bias and…
使用非线性筛方法推断时间序列非参数条件矩限制
This paper studies estimation of and inference on dynamic nonparametric conditional moment restrictions of high dimensional variables for weakly dependent data, where the unknown functions of endogenous variables can be approximated via nonlinear sieves such as neural networks and Gaussian radial bases. The true unknown functions and their sieve approximations are allowed to be in general weighted function spaces with unbounded supports, which is important for time series…
使用一般筛法推断时间序列非参数条件矩约束
General nonlinear sieve learnings are classes of nonlinear sieves that can approximate nonlinear functions of high dimensional variables much more flexibly than various linear sieves (or series). This paper considers general nonlinear sieve quasi-likelihood ratio (GN-QLR) based inference on expectation functionals of time series data, where the functionals of interest are based on some nonparametric function that satisfy conditional moment restrictions and are learned using…
CIMTx:利用观测数据进行多处理因果推断的 R 包
CIMTx provides efficient and unified functions to implement modern methods for causal inferences with multiple treatments using observational data with a focus on binary outcomes. The methods include regression adjustment, inverse probability of treatment weighting, Bayesian additive regression trees, regression adjustment with multivariate spline of the generalized propensity score, vector matching and targeted maximum likelihood estimation. In addition, CIMTx illustrates…
