Control variables provide an important means of controlling for endogeneity in econometric models with nonseparable and/or multidimensional heterogeneity. We allow for discrete instruments, giving identification results under a variety of restrictions on the way the endogenous variable and the control variables affect the outcome. We consider many structural objects of interest, such as average or quantile treatment effects. We illustrate our results with an empirical application to Engel curve estimation.
农业政策干预的规模化效应
Policies to raise agricultural productivity have been central in the fight against global poverty. Their impacts are often measured in experiments that provide strong causal identification but may be too small-scale to capture general equilibrium effects that arise when policies are scaled up. We develop a quantitative model of agricultural trade, featuring a granular economic geography, that combines parameters estimated from small-scale experiments with rich administrative…
带约束的条件矩限制模型
Shape restrictions have played a central role in economics as both testable implications of theory and sufficient conditions for obtaining informative counterfactual predictions. In this paper we provide a general procedure for inference under shape restrictions in identified and partially identified models defined by conditional moment restrictions. Our test statistics and proposed inference methods are based on the minimum of the generalized method of moments (GMM)…

工具变量分位数回归
This chapter reviews the instrumental variable quantile regression model of Chernozhukov and Hansen (2005). We discuss the key conditions used for identification of structural quantile effects within this model which include the availability of instruments and a restriction on the ranks of structural disturbances. We outline several approaches to obtaining point estimates and performing statistical inference for model parameters. Finally, we point to possible directions for…
处理状态误分类下的工具变量分位数回归
Abstract This article investigates the instrumental variable quantile regression model (Chernozhukov and Hansen, 2005, Econometrica 73, 245–261; 2013, Annual Review of Economics , 5, 57–81) with a binary endogenous treatment. It offers two identification results when the treatment status is not directly observed. The first result is that, remarkably, the reduced-form quantile regression of the outcome variable on the instrumental variable provides a lower bound on the…
小支撑集工具变量下非可分模型的识别
I consider nonparametric identification of nonseparable instrumental variables models with continuous endogenous variables. If both the outcome and first stage equations are strictly increasing in a scalar unobservable, then many kinds of continuous, discrete, and even binary instruments can be used to point-identify the levels of the outcome equation. This contrasts sharply with related work by Imbens and Newey, 2009 that requires continuous instruments with large support.…
