Summary Methodology is proposed that addresses two problems that arise in application of the generalized method of moments representation of the likelihood in Bayesian inference: (1) a missing Jacobian term and (2) a normality assumption. The proposals are illustrated by application to the seminal application of the generalized method of moments methodology in the econometric literature: an endowment economy whose representative agent has constant relative risk aversion utility.
A standard assumption in the Bayesian estimation of linear regression models is that the regressors are exogenous in the sense that they are uncorrelated with the model error term. In practice, however, this assumption can be invalid. In this article, using the exponentially tilted empirical likelihood (ETEL) framework, we develop a Bayes factor test for endogeneity that compares a base model that is correctly specified under exogeneity but misspecified under endogeneity…
Bayesian inference with empirical likelihood faces a challenge as the posterior domain is a proper subset of the original parameter space due to the convex hull constraint. We propose a regularized exponentially tilted empirical likelihood to address this issue. Our method removes the convex hull constraint using a novel regularization technique, incorporating a continuous exponential family distribution to satisfy a Kullback--Leibler divergence criterion. The regularization…
Econometric models offer parsimonious but inexact approximations to data-generating processes. This paper studies the generalized method of moments (GMM) when exchangeable specification errors of order $n^{-1/2}$ contaminate the moment conditions. I develop estimators for the mean and variance of these specification errors, establishing their consistency in an asymptotic framework where the number of overidentifying restrictions grows with the sample size. These…
Moment restrictions provide a flexible basis for quasi-Bayesian inference when a full likelihood is unavailable, but the weighting matrix in a quadratic moment criterion determines both the relative importance of the moments and the information scale of posterior updating. We propose curvature-calibrated quasi-Bayesian updating, which uses the inverse of the covariance (or long-run covariance) of the moment conditions evaluated at a self-consistent quasi-posterior center.…
We develop the Quasi-Bayesian Hierarchical Model (QBHM) for grouped GMM settings. The framework combines Bayesian hierarchical modelling with Laplace-type estimation: it preserves each group-specific objective function, while introducing a pooling term for economically comparable parameters. When the number of studies is fixed, the QBHM estimator-the quasi-posterior mean-has the same asymptotic distribution as GMM when estimating strongly identified study parameters. For…
The recently proposed scalable ARMA model preserves the parsimony of traditional VARMA models while achieving greater computational tractability. However, existing studies are limited to regularized least squares estimation (LSE) for high-dimensional settings, which is not only statistically less efficient but also requires the sub-Gaussian assumption for its theoretical guarantees. Moreover, it still lacks inference tool for real applications. To fill this gap, we develop a…
