ABSTRACT This article partially identifies population treatment effects in observational data under both non‐random treatment assignment and sample selection. Bounds are provided for both average and quantile population treatment effects, combining assumptions for the selected and the non‐selected subsamples. We show how different assumptions help narrow identification regions, and we illustrate our methods by partially identifying the effect of maternal education on the 2015 PISA math test scores in Brazil. We find that while sample selection considerably increases the uncertainty around the effect of maternal education, it is still possible to calculate informative identification regions.

We study estimation and inference for a partially identified parameter whose identified set depends on a first-stage nuisance parameter that must itself be estimated. Combining the criterion-function approach with the theory of Neyman-orthogonal moments that underlies double/debiased machine learning, we propose a two-step procedure: the point-identified nuisance is estimated by flexible machine-learning methods, and the set-identified target is recovered as a level set of a…
有序结果的因果推断:基于 Copula 的识别、估计与敏感性分析
In causal inference with ordinal outcomes, several interpretable estimands are functions of the probability that the potential outcome under one treatment is larger than that under another treatment for the same unit. This probability depends on the joint distribution of both potential outcomes and is generally not identifiable. Existing work has focused on sharp bounds of this probability based on partial identification, but bounds are often too wide to be informative. We…

We study the gradient wild bootstrap-based inference for instrumental variable quantile regressions in the framework of a small number of large clusters in which the number of clusters is viewed as fixed, and the number of observations for each cluster diverges to infinity. For the Wald inference, we show that our wild bootstrap Wald test, with or without studentization using the cluster-robust covariance estimator (CRVE), controls size asymptotically up to a small error as…

We study the estimation of causal estimand involving the joint distribution of treatment and control outcomes for a single unit. In typical causal inference settings, it is impossible to observe both outcomes simultaneously, which places our estimation within the domain of partial identification (PI). Pre-treatment covariates can substantially reduce estimation uncertainty by shrinking the partially identified set. Recent work has shown that covariate-assisted PI sets can be…
随机对象的 Lee 界
In applied research, Lee (2009) bounds are widely applied to bound the average treatment effect in the presence of selection bias. This paper extends the methodology of Lee bounds to accommodate outcomes in a general metric space, such as compositional and distributional data. By exploiting a representation of the Fréchet mean of the potential outcome via embedding in an Euclidean or Hilbert space, we present a feasible characterization of the identified set of the causal…

We define the Probability of Tiered Benefit in scenarios with a binary exposure and an outcome that is either categorical with $K \geq 2$ ordered tiers or continuous partitioned by $K-1$ fixed thresholds into disjoint intervals. Similarly to other pure counterfactual queries, this parameter is not $g$-identifiable without additional assumptions. We demonstrate that strong monotonicity does not suffice for point identification when $K \geq 3$ and provide sharp bounds both…
