Let $\hat{T}_n$ be an estimate of the form $\hat{T}_n = T(\hat{F}_n)$, where $\hat{F}_n$ is the sample $\operatorname{cdf}$ of $n \operatorname{iid}$ observations and $T$ is a locally quadratic functional defined on $\operatorname{cdf's}$. Then, the normalized jackknife estimates for bias, skewness, and variance of $\hat{T}_n$ approximate closely their bootstrap counterparts. Each of these estimates is consistent. Moreover, the jackknife and bootstrap estimates of variance are asymptotically normal and asymptotically minimax. The main results: the first-order Edgeworth expansion estimate for the distribution of $n^{1/2}(\hat{T}_n - T(F))$, with $F$ being the actual $\operatorname{cdf}$ of each observation and the expansion coefficients being estimated by jackknifing, is asymptotically equivalent to the corresponding bootstrap distribution estimate, up to and including terms of order $n^{-1/2}$. Both distribution estimates are asymptotically minimax. The jackknife Edgeworth expansion estimate suggests useful corrections for skewness and bias to upper and lower confidence bounds for $T(F)$.
Two frequent approaches for identifying structural VARs are external instruments, which carry economic content but are often weak, and non-Gaussianity of the shocks, which provides statistical identification but carries no economic meaning. We combine the two strategies in a single generalized method of moments framework. This hybrid approach point-identifies the target shocks while also identifying the non-target shocks up to sign and ordering. Under suitable rank…

We propose a multilevel main effects matrix factor model (MMEFM) to extract meaningful row and column effects from groups of matrix data. As a generalization of a multilevel matrix factor model, we provide rigorous definitions of MMEFM and identifications, together with iterative algorithms for the estimators of all global and local components in the main effects and common component, including global/local main effects and core ranks, with rates of convergence spelt out. An…
Under i.i.d. sampling, the maximum score estimator of Manski (1975) converges at the cube-root rate to a non-Gaussian limit. We show that, under multiway dependence and low-level conditions, it is asymptotically normal at a parametric rate in the smallest number of clusters and, when the cluster-level variance is non-degenerate, as fast as regular estimators such as probit. The result rests on a general theory for non-smooth M-estimators, under which a modified bootstrap is…
高维线性回归的统一谱分析:去偏与阈值化
We use spectral analysis to establish a unified theory of debiasing, thresholding, and simultaneous inference for high-dimensional linear regression with ill-conditioned designs. The methods include Ridge regression, spectral cut-off, and iterative and dynamical regression procedures. A common debiasing procedure uses two applications of the original linear algorithm with fixed parameters. Spectral analysis shows that debiasing squares the residual, while implementations…

Target trial emulation has become a standard framework for causal inference from observational data. Within this paradigm, the clone-censor-weight (CCW) methodology provides a practical way to deal with complex treatment and adherence definitions when treatment regimes are not distinguishable at baseline. Despite its increasing use, the statistical interpretation of CCW remains limited. In this work, we formalize the CCW methodology from a statistical viewpoint based on…

The Information Matrix (IM) test is a natural specification check for likelihood-based models, yet cross-sectional implementations are often badly sized, confound neglected heterogeneity with distributional misspecification, and require third derivatives. We develop the panel information matrix (PIM) test for models with fixed effects. Explicit fixed effects isolate functional-form misspecification from time-invariant unobserved heterogeneity. Although the profile maximum…
