Summary We construct daily house price indices for 10 major US metropolitan areas. Our calculations are based on a comprehensive database of several million residential property transactions and a standard repeat‐sales method that closely mimics the methodology of the popular monthly Case–Shiller house price indices. Our new daily house price indices exhibit dynamic features similar to those of other daily asset prices, with mild autocorrelation and strong conditional heteroskedasticity of the corresponding daily returns. A relatively simple multivariate time series model for the daily house price index returns, explicitly allowing for commonalities across cities and GARCH effects, produces forecasts of longer‐run monthly house price changes that are superior to various alternative forecast procedures based on lower‐frequency data. We tackle the issue of producing point, sign, and density forecasts for the monthly real price of carbon in the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). We show that Bayesian Vector Autoregressive (BVAR) models augmented with factors based on macroeconomic and financial variables yield improvements in point and density forecasting performance, with the largest point-forecast gains emerging at intermediate and longer horizons. In particular, the one-factor BVAR model…
电力市场波动率与风险溢价预测
We study forecasting of the realized covariation in electricity markets. The realized covariation in this context is a matrix-valued representation of the latent infinite-dimensional covariance operator and a parsimonious matrix-HAR type model is constructed to facilitate estimation. We test the model on one-week ahead forecasts of the weekly realized covariation and find that the inclusion of longer time horizons and renewable generation information adds important…
用于多变量波动率预测的网络时间序列模型
Realized volatility has become a standard tool for measuring latent variation in financial assets, and its forecasting is crucial for a wide range of financial applications. We propose a network-based model for forecasting a vector of realized variance processes through the heterogeneous autoregressive (HAR) approach. The generalised network HAR (GNHAR) model incorporates cross-sectional spillovers through a directed graph inferred from Granger-causality tests or…
用于时间序列建模与预测的贝叶斯上下文树状态空间模型
A hierarchical Bayesian framework is introduced for developing tree-based mixture models for time series, partly motivated by applications in finance and forecasting. At the top level, meaningful discrete states are identified as appropriately quantised values of some of the most recent samples. At the bottom level, a different, arbitrary base model is associated with each state. This defines a very general framework that can be used in conjunction with any existing model…
利用傅里叶与小波技术精简周期时间序列建模
This paper proposes Fourier-based and wavelet-based techniques for analyzing periodic financial time series. Conventional models such as the periodic autoregressive conditional heteroscedastic (PGARCH) and periodic autoregressive conditional duration (PACD) often involve many parameters. The methods put forward here resulted in more parsimonious models with increased forecast efficiency. The effectiveness of these approaches is demonstrated through simulation and data…
通过参数连接缓解持续期依赖 Markov 转换模型的持续期选择
One of the most important hyper-parameters in duration-dependent Markov-switching (DDMS) models is the duration of the hidden states. Because there is currently no procedure for estimating this duration or testing whether a given duration is appropriate for a given data set, an ad hoc duration choice must be heuristically justified. In this paper, we propose and examine a methodology that mitigates the choice of duration in DDMS models when forecasting is the goal. Two Monte…
