Sufficient dimension reduction (SDR) has progressed steadily. However, its ability to improve general function estimation or classification has not been well received, especially for high-dimensional data. In this article, we first devise a local linear smoother for high dimensional nonparametric regression and then utilise it in the outer-product-of-gradient (OPG) approach of SDR. We call the method high-dimensional OPG (HOPG). To apply SDR to classification in high-dimensional data, we propose an ensemble classifier by aggregating results of classifiers that are built on subspaces reduced by the random projection and HOPG consecutively from the data. Asymptotic results for both HOPG and the classifier are established. Superior performance over the existing methods is demonstrated in simulations and real data analyses. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.

Conditional distribution equality testing is a core problem with applications in causal inference, model diagnostics, and transfer learning. Existing methods often lose power when the conditioning variable is high-dimensional. We propose a new test that leverages generative models to compare conditional distributions using both observed data and synthetic samples. A sample-splitting and studentization scheme is introduced to control estimation error. Under the null, the test…

We propose Multivariate Lévy Adaptive B-Spline Regression (MLABS), a Bayesian nonparametric regression model designed to capture nonlinear effects, interactions, and locally varying features of multivariate functions. MLABS represents the regression function as a random sum of low-order tensor-product B-spline basis functions under a finite Lévy random measure prior. The resulting representation adapts to the complexity and local structure of the regression function while…

Gaussian processes (GPs) are widely used across machine learning, spatial statistics, time-series analysis, optimization, Bayesian statistics, and scientific applications. A central component of a GP model is its kernel, which is typically specified through a parametric family. Among the most widely used choices is the radial basis function (RBF), also known as the squared exponential or Gaussian kernel, owing to its simple form, smoothness, and flexibility. In practice, the…

Quantile regression has received considerable attention in high dimensional methodology due to its robustness and ability to accommodate heteroskedasticity. Despite this attention, current inferential methods for high dimensional quantile regression have significant limitations---only testing significance, testing at a single quantile at a time, or assuming homoskedasticity. To generalize the inferences that can be drawn in high dimensional quantile regression, we introduce…
高维在线 M 估计中的大规模线性假设检验
With the growing prevalence of streaming data, renewable estimation has become an important tool for updating statistical analyses without retaining historical raw observations. We study estimation and linear hypothesis testing in high-dimensional online M-estimation. Existing renewable procedures based on quadratic approximations can incur first-order approximation errors because the gradient of the unpenalized loss generally does not vanish at a preceding penalized…

This paper develops a framework for estimation and inference on the volumes of sets that are projections of critical function sets, focusing particularly on the convex body beneath the optimal receiver operating characteristic (ROC) surface. Specifically, we propose a volume calculation method that first uses an Aumann expectation representation and then applies Minkowski mixed volumes. Using this framework, we show that the population volume under the ROC surface (VUS) is…
