We introduce a novel method for estimating and conducting inference about extreme quantile treatment effects (QTEs) in the presence of endogeneity. Our approach is applicable to a broad range of empirical research designs, including instrumental variables design and regression discontinuity design, among others. By leveraging regular variation and subsampling, the method ensures good performance even in extreme tails, where data may be sparse. Simulation studies confirm the theoretical properties of our approach. Applying our method to assess the effects of 401(k) participation on net savings, we find significantly negative QTEs for the highest quantiles of the income distribution contrasting with the previously reported positive effects in the intermediate quantiles.

机器学习分布型工具变量估计中的模型风险
We study model risk in machine-learning estimation of the Distributional Instrumental Variable Local Average Treatment Effect (D-IV-LATE), the distributional IV effect for the subpopulation induced into treatment by the instrument. The contribution is not a new neural causal estimand. We implement a reduced-form orthogonal level-score DML estimator for the covariate-adjusted D-IV-LATE target and use it to ask how much the nuisance learner matters for distributional IV…
分布值结局的工具变量回归
We develop IV Fréchet regression (IVFR), an instrumental-variable (IV) method for settings where the outcome is an entire distribution. Framing the problem as an IV regression in 2-Wasserstein space, IVFR extends global Fréchet regression to the case with endogenous covariates. IVFR projects IV-weighted quantile curves onto the space of valid distributions and then recovers the corresponding regression coefficient functions. The projection provably reduces the estimation…
弱识别与少量聚类下工具变量分位数回归的梯度野生自助法
We study the gradient wild bootstrap-based inference for instrumental variable quantile regressions in the framework of a small number of large clusters in which the number of clusters is viewed as fixed, and the number of observations for each cluster diverges to infinity. For the Wald inference, we show that our wild bootstrap Wald test, with or without studentization using the cluster-robust covariance estimator (CRVE), controls size asymptotically up to a small error as…
尖锐回归折点设计中局部处理效应识别与推断的统一框架
This paper develops a unified framework for the identification, estimation, and uniform inference of local treatment effects (LTEs) in sharp regression kink designs (RKDs). These LTEs quantify the effect of a marginal change in the treatment at the kink point on various features of the outcome distribution. The identification strategy applies to Hadamard-differentiable functionals of the outcome distribution -- including means, quantiles, and inequality measures -- and…
含协变量的秩相似分位数断点回归:识别与推断
This study investigates the identification and inference of quantile treatment effects (QTEs) in a fuzzy regression discontinuity (RD) design under rank similarity . Unlike Frandsen et al. (2012, Journal of Econometrics 168, 382–395), who focus on QTEs only for the compliant subpopulation, our approach can identify QTEs and average treatment effect for the whole population at the threshold. We derived a new set of moment restrictions for the RD model by imposing a local rank…
