We consider pooling cross-section time series data for testing the unit root hypothesis. The degree of persistence in individual regression error, the intercept and trend coefficient are allowed to vary freely across individuals. As both the cross-section and time series dimensions of the panel grow large, the pooled t-statistic has a limiting normal distribution that depends on the regression specification but is free from nuisance parameters. Monte Carlo simulations indicate that the asymptotic results provide a good approximation to the test statistics in panels of moderate size, and that the power of the panel-based unit root test is dramatically higher, compared to performing a separate unit root test for each individual time series.

Global mean surface temperature has been increasing in response to growing greenhouse gas concentrations (IPCC, 2021). While Earth is getting warmer overall, regions that have different local geographical features experience unequal increases in temperature. In this paper, we develop a varying-coefficient dynamic panel data model and use it to measure local climate sensitivity, defined as the increase in temperature in a given location following a doubling of CO2…
面板数据单位根检验综述
This review discusses methods of testing for a panel unit root. Modern approaches to testing in cross-sectionally correlated panels are discussed, preceding the analysis with an analysis of independent panels. In addition, methods for testing in the case of non-linearity in the data (for example, in the case of structural breaks) are presented, as well as methods for testing in short panels, when the time dimension is small and finite. In conclusion, links to existing…

This paper considers testing for unit roots in Gaussian panels with cross-sectional dependence generated by common factors. Within our setup, we can analyze restricted versions of the two prevalent approaches in the literature, that of Moon and Perron (2004, Journal of Econometrics 122, 81–126), who specify a factor model for the innovations, and the PANIC setup proposed in Bai and Ng (2004, Econometrica 72, 1127–1177), who test common factors and idiosyncratic deviations…

The left-tailed unit-root tests of the panel analysis of nonstationarity in idiosyncratic and common components (PANIC) proposed by Bai and Ng (2004, Econometrica 72, 1127–1177) have standard local asymptotic power. We assess the size and power properties of the right-tailed version of the PANIC tests when the common and/or the idiosyncratic components are moderately explosive. We find that, when an idiosyncratic component is moderately explosive, the tests for the common…

Recently, there has been growing interest in developing econometric tools to conduct counterfactual analysis with aggregate data when a single “treated” unit suffers an intervention, such as a policy change, and there is no obvious control group. Usually, the proposed methods are based on the construction of an artificial/synthetic counterfactual from a pool of “untreated” peers, organized in a panel data structure. In this article, we investigate the consequences of…
动态面板空间向量自回归估计:稳定性与空间多变量协整
This paper introduces dynamic panel spatial vector autoregressive models. We study features of dynamics and spatial interactions that an SVAR model can generate and classify the model into stable or unstable cases by partitioning parameter spaces. For stable, spatial cointegration, and mixed cointegration cases, we investigate identification and QML estimation of the models to take into account simultaneity and correlated relationships. Asymptotic properties and…
