This paper proposes a simple and efficient estimation procedure for the model with non-ignorable missing data studied by Morikawa and Kim (2016). Their semiparametrically efficient estimator requires explicit nonparametric estimation and so suffers from the curse of dimensionality and requires a bandwidth selection. We propose an estimation method based on the Generalized Method of Moments (hereafter GMM). Our method is consistent and asymptotically normal regardless of the number of moments chosen. Furthermore, if the number of moments increases appropriately our estimator can achieve the semiparametric efficiency bound derived in Morikawa and Kim (2016), but under weaker regularity conditions. Moreover, our proposed estimator and its consistent covariance matrix are easily computed with the widely available GMM package. We propose two data-based methods for selection of the number of moments. A small scale simulation study reveals that the proposed estimation indeed out-performs the existing alternatives in finite samples.
BLP 模型中的条件矩估计与推断
The random-coefficient demand model of Berry, Levinsohn, and Pakes (1995) is commonly estimated by the generalized method of moments (GMM), using an unconditional moment restriction with a fixed set of instruments. Identification of the model, however, rests on a conditional moment restriction. The two are not equivalent: the unconditional restriction may admit additional parameter values. We construct a counterexample in which the model is identified by the conditional…

We develop kernel-based specification tests for semiparametric conditional moment models with high-dimensional nuisance parameters, extending existing conditional moment tests---which typically require asymptotically linear nuisance estimators---to accommodate modern machine-learning methods. The proposed locally robust kernel tests combine Neyman-orthogonal moments, cross-fitting, and reproducing kernel Hilbert space methods, yielding inference that is first-order…
基于机器学习的去偏 U 统计量
We propose a method to debias estimators based on U-statistics with machine-learning (ML) first steps. Standard plug-in estimators often suffer from regularization and model-selection biases, leading to invalid inference. We characterize orthogonal adjustment terms for two-step U-statistics, construct Debiased Machine Learning (DML) U-estimators, develop a cross-fitting algorithm, and establish a general asymptotic theory for inference with ML first steps. We illustrate the…
未知异方差或工具变量下的高维二元选择模型
This paper proposes a new method for estimating high-dimensional binary choice models. We consider a semiparametric model that places no distributional assumptions on the error term, allows for heteroskedastic errors, and permits endogenous regressors. Our approaches extend the special regressor estimator originally proposed by Lewbel (2000). This estimator becomes impractical in high-dimensional settings due to the curse of dimensionality associated with high-dimensional…

We develop the theory of a novel fast bootstrap for dependent data. Our scheme deploys i.i.d. resampling of smoothed moment indicators. We characterize the class of parametric and semiparametric estimation problems for which the method is valid. We show the asymptotic refinements of the new procedure, proving that it is higher-order correct under mild assumptions on the time series, the estimating functions, and the smoothing kernel. We illustrate the applicability and the…
