Implementing Bayesian inference is often computationally challenging in complex models, especially when calculating the likelihood is difficult. Synthetic likelihood is one approach for carrying out inference when the likelihood is intractable, but it is straightforward to simulate from the model. The method constructs an approximate likelihood by taking a vector summary statistic as being multivariate normal, with the unknown mean and covariance estimated by simulation. Previous research demonstrates that the Bayesian implementation of synthetic likelihood can be more computationally efficient than approximate Bayesian computation, a popular likelihood-free method, in the presence of a high-dimensional summary statistic. Our article makes three contributions. The first shows that if the summary statistics are well-behaved, then the synthetic likelihood posterior is asymptotically normal and yields credible sets with the correct level of coverage. The second contribution compares the computational efficiency of Bayesian synthetic likelihood and approximate Bayesian computation. We show that Bayesian synthetic likelihood is computationally more efficient than approximate Bayesian computation. Based on the asymptotic results, the third contribution proposes using adjusted inference methods when a possibly misspecified form is assumed for the covariance matrix of the synthetic likelihood, such as diagonal or a factor model, to speed up computation. Copula主动子空间(一):非高斯密度降维估计的得分协方差方法
In Bayesian inference problems with non-Gaussian observation noise, the posterior is only as accurate as the noise density, and gradient-based samplers need that density and its gradient evaluable pointwise, whether from an explicit expression or from code, and without an inner solve. We propose Copula Active Subspaces (CAS) to represent this noise density. A componentwise rank transform isolates the noise law's dependence in its copula, and a rank-$r$ reduction keeps only…
条件线性的矩阵正态状态空间模型
We develop a class of linear state space models for matrix-valued time series data where the state is a latent matrix normal process. We derive matrix versions of the Kalman filter, log-likelihood, and smoother enabling estimation of the latent state matrix as well as the model's parameters. To conduct Bayesian inference, we provide algorithms that draw from the joint posterior distribution of the latent state matrices conditional on the observed data and parameters. We…
变分贝叶斯变量选择后的潜在结构恢复:部分探索性因子分析的拟合评估与因子数选择
In partially exploratory factor analysis (PEFA), the loading structure and factor numbers are weakly specified. The regularized variational approximation for partially confirmatory factor analysis (PCFA VA) recovers this structure via Bayesian variable selection, using spike and slab priors to assign inclusion probabilities to unspecified loadings. This research introduces a post selection assessment framework for this approach. We convert converged solutions into covariance…

Summary This article focuses on covariance estimation for multi-view data. Popular approaches rely on factor-analytic decompositions with shared and view-specific latent factors. Posterior computation is conducted via expensive and brittle Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling or variational approximations that underestimate uncertainty and lack theoretical guarantees. Our proposed methodology employs spectral decompositions to estimate and align latent factors that are active…

Factor models are popular approaches for analyzing high-dimensional data to extract low-rank signals and estimate covariances. They decompose the covariance matrix as the sum of low-rank and diagonal components. A key issue is how to choose the latent dimension $k$, which is particularly challenging when the factor model only holds approximately and in low signal-to-noise scenarios. Bayesian overfitted factor models specify an upper bound on $k$ and rely on structured…
大规模动态消费者需求
We study consumer demand in large-scale retail settings with many products, multiple categories and repeated purchase behavior. While inertia and brand loyalty are well documented, existing discrete choice models typically focus on single categories or become computationally infeasible in high-dimensional environments. We propose a dynamic product-level factor model that captures heterogeneity in baseline preferences, price sensitivity and inertia through a shared latent…
