This paper proposes a Bayesian nonparametric modeling approach for the return distribution in multivariate GARCH models. In contrast to the parametric literature the return distribution can display general forms of asymmetry and thick tails. An infinite mixture of multivariate normals is given a flexible Dirichlet process prior. The GARCH functional form enters into each of the components of this mixture. We discuss conjugate methods that allow for scale mixtures and nonconjugate methods which provide mixing over both the location and scale of the normal components. MCMC methods are introduced for posterior simulation and computation of the predictive density. Bayes factors and density forecasts with comparisons to GARCH models with Student-t innovations demonstrate the gains from our flexible modeling approach.
基于贝叶斯模型平均的半参数 GARCH
As the dynamic structure of financial markets is subject to dramatic change, a model capable of providing consistently accurate volatility estimates should not make rigid assumptions on how prices change over time. Most volatility models impose a particular parametric functional form that relates an observed price change to a volatility forecast (news impact function). Here, a new class of functional coefficient semiparametric volatility models is proposed, where the news…

This paper introduces several new Bayesian nonparametric models suitable for capturing the unknown conditional distribution of realized covariance (RCOV) matrices. Existing dynamic Wishart models are extended to countably infinite mixture models of Wishart and inverse-Wishart distributions. In addition to mixture models with constant weights we propose models with time-varying weights to capture time dependence in the unknown distribution. Each of our models can be combined…
用狄利克雷过程混合估计半参数非对称随机波动率模型
We extend the asymmetric, stochastic, volatility model by modeling the return-volatility distribution nonparametrically. The novelty is modeling this distribution with an infinite mixture of Normals, where the mixture unknowns have a Dirichlet process prior. Cumulative Bayes factors show our semiparametric model accurately forecasting market returns. During tranquil markets, expected volatility rises (declines, then rises as the shock increases) when the market shock is…

This paper considers the problem of defining a time-dependent nonparametric prior for use in Bayesian nonparametric modelling of time series. A recursive construction allows the definition of priors whose marginals have a general stick-breaking form. The processes with Poisson-Dirichlet and Dirichlet process marginals are investigated in some detail. We develop a general conditional Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for inference in the wide subclass of these models…
利用混频数据改进密度预测:贝叶斯方法
We construct a modeling framework that allows for the flexible contribution of intraday information to predict the conditional distribution of asset returns. A flexible spline specification is proposed to capture the contribution of intraday returns inside GARCH and stochastic volatility specifications for daily returns. The “focused Bayesian” prediction framework is adopted to allow the intraday contribution to the simpler GARCH specification to be trained according to the…
基于分位数的金融收益尺度动态建模与 VaR、ES 预测
We introduce a semiparametric approach for forecasting Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Expected Shortfall (ES) by modeling the conditional scale of financial returns, defined as the difference between two specified quantiles, via restricted quantile regression. Focusing on downside risk, VaR is derived from the left-tail quantile of rescaled returns, and ES is approximated by averaging quantiles below the VaR level. The method delivers robust, distribution-free estimates of extreme…
