The techniques suggested in Frühwirth-Schnatter et al. (2024) concern sparsity and factor selection and have enormous potential beyond standard factor analysis applications. We show how these techniques can be applied to Latent Space (LS) models for network data. These models suffer from well-known identification issues of the latent factors due to likelihood invariance to factor translation, reflection, and rotation (see Hoff et al., 2002). A set of observables can be instrumental in identifying the latent factors via auxiliary equations (see Liu et al., 2021). These, in turn, share many analogies with the equations used in factor modeling, and we argue that the factor loading restrictions may be beneficial for achieving identification.

Multiple long-term conditions (MLTCs) arise through complex, time-dependent interactions among diseases, yet existing methods often struggle to jointly model disease progression, multimorbidity networks, and high-dimensional risk factors. We propose a structured Bayesian continuous-time Bayesian network (CTBN) framework for learning directed disease-dependency networks from longitudinal electronic health records. The model allows disease transition intensities to depend on…

Count-weighted temporal networks often exhibit unequal dispersion in the edge weights, which cannot be fully explained by modelling observational heterogeneity through latent factors in the conditional mean. Therefore, we propose new dynamic network model classes exploiting the Generalized Poisson distribution to capture both under- and overdispersion. We consider three different dynamic specifications: latent factor dynamics, autoregressive dynamics, and latent position…

We propose a Markov Switching Graphical Seemingly Unrelated Regression (MS-GSUR) model to investigate time-varying systemic risk based on a range of multi-factor asset pricing models. Methodologically, we develop a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) scheme in which latent states are identified on the basis of a novel weighted eigenvector centrality measure. An empirical application to the constituents of the S&P100 index shows that cross-firm connectivity significantly…
含时变内生空间权重、共同因子与随机系数的空间面板自回归模型:贝叶斯分析
This article examines spatial panel autoregressive (SAR) models with dynamic, time-varying endogenous spatial weights matrices, common factors, and random coefficients. An empirical application is on the spillover effects of state Medicaid spending. Endogeneity of spatial weights matrices comes from the correlation of “economic distance” and the disturbances in the SAR equation. Common factors control for common shocks to all states and random coefficients may capture…

Exploring the dynamic co-evolution of multiplex graphs and nodal attributes is a compelling question in criminal and terrorism networks. This article is motivated by the study of dynamically evolving interactions among prominent terrorist organizations, considering various organizational attributes like size, ideology, leadership, and operational capacity. Statistically principled integration of multiplex graphs with nodal attributes is significantly challenging due to the…

ABSTRACT We evaluate the roles of upstream (supplier‐to‐user), downstream (user‐to‐supplier), and common factor shock transmission across firms by deriving interfirm networks and common factors from US equities over 1989–2017. We overcome the econometric challenges of estimating the large factor‐augmented vector autoregressive (FAVAR) system by developing two alternative approaches: one prioritizing computational efficiency and the other providing the full posterior…
