Circular data recorded over time, such as wind direction, are increasingly observed in intervals rather than as single point-valued observations, yet no existing framework accommodates data that are simultaneously circular, interval-valued, and temporally dependent. Time series models for point-valued circular data, including recently proposed score-driven approaches, assume that each observation is a single angle. This paper addresses this gap by proposing a dynamic conditional score framework for interval-valued circular time series. The lower and upper boundary sequences of the observed intervals are treated as circular time series governed by score-driven dynamics, which preserves the periodicity of the circular domain and the dependency of boundaries, in which the boundaries are coupled through a toroidal distribution and a jointly derived score. Maximum likelihood estimation is discussed, and their finite-sample performance is evaluated through simulation. An application to interval-valued wind direction data illustrates the practical value of retaining the interval structure within a fully rotationally invariant circular framework.
Matrix-valued time series, arising in diverse fields such as economics, neuroscience, and recommender systems, have become increasingly prominent in modern data analysis. Among various modeling frameworks, the matrix-variate CP-factor model represents an important and widely applicable class for capturing low-rank structures in matrix time series. In this paper, we provide a unified treatment for the identification problem of CP factor models using both analytic and…
We study sparsity-regularized maximum likelihood estimation for the drift parameter of high-dimensional non-stationary Ornstein--Uhlenbeck processes given repeated measurements of i.i.d. paths. In particular, we show that Lasso and Slope estimators can achieve the minimax optimal rate of convergence. We exhibit numerical experiments for sparse estimation methods and show their performance.
Quasi-periodic oscillations are characterized by fitting Lorentzian functions to a nonparametric estimate of the power spectral density, a two-step procedure that separates estimation from modeling and does not accommodate measurement error. We develop a parametric alternative based on autoregressive moving-average (ARMA) processes observed with measurement error. We derive an exact decomposition of the ARMA spectral density into real-valued components, one for each class of…
We establish statistical consistency for the penalized maximum-likelihood estimator underlying CPLASS, a method for detecting changes in velocity in $d$-dimensional time-series data. The signal is modeled as a continuous piecewise-linear trajectory observed with independent Gaussian noise. Unlike classical change-in-mean models, continuity across adjacent segments couples their parameters and prevents direct application of standard segmentation arguments. Under compact…
Understanding the processes that influence groundwater levels is crucial for forecasting and responding to hazards such as groundwater droughts. Mixed models, which combine a fixed mean, expressed using independent predictors, with autocorrelated random errors, are used for inference, forecasting and filling in missing values in groundwater level time series. Estimating parameters of mixed models using maximum likelihood has high computational complexity. For large datasets,…
This paper develops a daily structural VAR for identifying oil price shocks from conditional heteroskedasticity and quantifies the transmission of their timevarying uncertainty. Identification exploits volatility clustering and spillovers in a structural GARCH specification and the complete identified set is derived. We derive covariance impulse response functions and introduce a time-varying forecast error variance decomposition (TV-FEVD) that allows for a decomposition of…
