This article considers the estimation of the parameters of a copula via a simulated method of moments (MM) type approach. This approach is attractive when the likelihood of the copula model is not known in closed form, or when the researcher has a set of dependence measures or other functionals of the copula that are of particular interest. The proposed approach naturally also nests MM and generalized method of moments estimators. Drawing on results for simulation-based estimation and on recent work in empirical copula process theory, we show the consistency and asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator, and obtain a simple test of overidentifying restrictions as a specification test. The results apply to both iid and time series data. We analyze the finite-sample behavior of these estimators in an extensive simulation study. We apply the model to a group of seven financial stock returns and find evidence of statistically significant tail dependence, and mild evidence that the dependence between these assets is stronger in crashes than booms. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.

This paper develops a methodological framework for reverse stress testing (RST) in which a multivariate stress scenario, coherent with the empirical dependence structure of a market, is reconstructed from a single exogenous shock prescribed on one asset class. The problem is formulated as the maximisation of the conditional density given the imposed shock, and is solved under three progressively weaker distributional assumptions. In the parametric setting, joint Gaussianity…

The standard asymmetric Laplace framework for Bayesian quantile regression (BQR) suffers from a fundamental decision-theoretic misalignment, yielding biased finite-sample estimates, and precludes gradient-based computation due to non-smoothness. We propose Bayesian smoothed quantile regression (BSQR), a principled framework built on a kernel-smoothed, fully differentiable likelihood. Methodologically, the symmetrizing property of our objective reduces inferential bias and…

Conditional value-at-risk is a popular risk measure in risk management. We study the inference problem of conditional value-at-risk under a linear predictive regression model. We derive the asymptotic distribution of the least squares estimator for the conditional value-at-risk. Our results relax the model assumptions made in (Oper. Res. 60 (2012) 739–756) and correct their mistake in the asymptotic variance expression. We show that the asymptotic variance depends on the…
GARCH 过程矩存在性的检验
It is generally admitted that many financial time series have heavy tailed marginal distributions. When time series models are fitted on such data, the non-existence of appropriate moments may invalidate standard statistical tools used for inference. Moreover, the existence of moments can be crucial for risk management, for instance when risk is measured through the expected shortfall. This paper considers testing the existence of moments in the framework of GARCH processes.…

For monitoring systemic risk from regulators’ point of view, this article proposes a relative risk measure, which is sensitive to the market comovement. The asymptotic normality of a nonparametric estimator and its smoothed version is established when the observations are independent. To effectively construct an interval without complicated asymptotic variance estimation, a jackknife empirical likelihood inference procedure based on the smoothed nonparametric estimation is…
GARCH(1,1) models are widely used for modelling processes with time‐varying volatility. These include financial time series, which can be particularly heavy tailed. In this paper, we propose a novel log‐transform‐based least‐squares approach to the estimation of GARCH(1,1) models. Within this approach, the scale of the estimated volatility is dependent on an unknown tuning constant. By means of a backtesting exercise on both real and simulated data, we show that knowledge of…
