Abstract Motivated by the questions ‘Financial Reform: What Shakes It? What Shapes It?’ raised by Abiad and Mody ( 2005 ), this paper studies the forces that induce governments to undertake financial sector reform. Rather than their ordered logit technique, it uses a within groups approach allowing for error dependence across countries and over time. This analysis shows that some of the AM findings are not robust to error dependence and the estimation method. It has shed new light on the political economy of financial reform. 面板数据分位数回归的GMM方法
This paper develops a smoothed generalized method of moments (GMM) framework for panel quantile models with individual-specific fixed-effects and endogenous regressors. By smoothing the indicator in the quantile moment conditions and profiling out the individual effects through smoothed individual quantile restrictions, the proposed estimator can be implemented using standard GMM algorithms. We establish consistency, asymptotic normality, and feasible inference under weak…
具有双向依赖的面板结构VAR推断
We develop inference for heterogeneous panel vector autoregressive (VAR) models and their structural impulse response functions, where the error terms are dependent in the cross-sectional and time dimensions (two-way dependence). For proxy-identified structural VARs, we first adapt mean-group estimation and construct a closed-form pooled identification. Considering the reduced-form VAR dynamics, residual covariances, and structural parameters, we derive a joint central limit…
重审产出收敛争论:面板数据模型分析新进展的启示
This paper provides a critical examination of the empirical basis of the output convergence debate in the light of recent developments in the analysis of dynamic heterogeneous panels with interactive effects. It shows that popular tools such as Barro's cross-country regressions and two-way fixed effects (TWFE) estimators that assume parallel trends and homogeneous dynamics lead to substantial under-estimation of the speed of convergence and misleading inference. Instead,…
交互效应异质性空间动态面板模型的IV估计
This paper develops a Mean Group Instrumental Variables (MGIV) approach for spatial dynamic panel data models with interactive effects, under large N and T asymptotics. Unlike existing approaches that typically impose slope-parameter homogeneity, MGIV accommodates cross-sectional heterogeneity in slope coefficients. The proposed estimator is linear, making it computationally efficient and robust. Furthermore, it enables asymptotically valid inferences without requiring bias…
条件线性的矩阵正态状态空间模型
We develop a class of linear state space models for matrix-valued time series data where the state is a latent matrix normal process. We derive matrix versions of the Kalman filter, log-likelihood, and smoother enabling estimation of the latent state matrix as well as the model's parameters. To conduct Bayesian inference, we provide algorithms that draw from the joint posterior distribution of the latent state matrices conditional on the observed data and parameters. We…
饱和固定效应推断的崩溃可靠度
Fixed-effect saturation does not itself distort conventional inference, but classical measurement error does. Under a local noise drift $σ_ν^2=c^2/n$, the FE-OLS $t$-statistic converges to a non-central normal; saturation contributes a common $\sqrt{1-ρ}$ scaling rather than preferentially destroying signal or noise. Inverting the size distortion gives a Stock--Yogo-style critical value. Self-consistency of the within-reliability-corrected pilot yields a breakdown…
