In many applications it is important to know whether the amount of fluctuation in a series of observations changes over time. In this article, we investigate different tests for detecting changes in the scale of mean-stationary time series. The classical approach, based on the CUSUM test applied to the squared centered observations, is very vulnerable to outliers and impractical for heavy-tailed data, which leads us to contemplate test statistics based on alternative, less outlier-sensitive scale estimators. It turns out that the tests based on Gini’s mean difference (the average of all pairwise distances) and generalized Qn estimators (sample quantiles of all pairwise distances) are very suitable candidates. They improve upon the classical test not only under heavy tails or in the presence of outliers, but also under normality. We use recent results on the process convergence of U-statistics and U-quantiles for dependent sequences to derive the limiting distribution of the test statistics and propose estimators for the long-run variance. We show the consistency of the tests and demonstrate the applicability of the new change-point detection methods at two real-life data examples from hydrology and finance. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.
通过自归一化检验函数型参数假设
Testing simple or composite hypothesis on a functional parameter has attracted considerable attention in time series analysis. To accommodate for the unknown temporal dependence, classical nonparametric approaches such as block bootstrapping and subsampling all involve a bandwidth parameter, the choice of which can substantially affect the finite sample performance. The self normalization (SN) method is tuning parameter free when applied to the inference of a…
结构突变下的局部高斯 Copula 推断:依赖关系可预测性检验
We propose a score test for dependence predictability in conditional copulas that is robust to temporal instabilities. Our semiparametric procedure accommodates flexible dynamics in the marginal processes and remains agnostic about the copula family by leveraging distributional regression techniques together with a local Gaussian representation of the copula link function. We derive the limiting distribution of our test statistic and propose a resampling scheme based on…
单连接点变点模型的渐近分布
A single joinpoint changepoint model partitions a time series into two segments, joined at the changepoint time by constraining the estimated piecewise linear regression responses to be continuous. This manuscript derives the exact asymptotic distribution of the changepoint existence test statistic gauging whether or not a second segment is necessary. The identified asymptotic distribution, a supremum of a Gaussian process over the unit interval, is rather unwieldy. The work…
不稳定环境下的分位数格兰杰因果关系
We propose a new framework for assessing Granger causality in quantiles in unstable environments, for a fixed quantile or over a continuum of quantile levels. Our proposed test statistics are consistent against fixed alternatives, they have nontrivial power against local alternatives, and they are pivotal in certain important special cases. In addition, we show the validity of a bootstrap procedure when asymptotic distributions depend on nuisance parameters. Monte Carlo…
时间序列的在线广义矩估计
Online learning has gained popularity in recent years due to the urgent need to analyse large-scale streaming data, which can be collected in perpetuity and serially dependent. This motivates us to develop the online generalized method of moments (OGMM), an explicitly updated estimation and inference framework in the time series setting. The OGMM inherits many properties of offline GMM, such as its broad applicability to many problems in econometrics and statistics, natural…
高维向量自回归模型中的序贯变点检测
Sequential (online) change-point detection involves continuously monitoring time-series data and triggering an alarm when shifts in the data distribution are detected. We propose an algorithm for real-time identification of alterations in the transition matrices of high-dimensional vector autoregressive models. The algorithm estimates transition matrices and error term variances using regularization techniques applied to training data, then computes a specific test statistic…
