Abstract This paper analyzes the effects of trade and outsourcing on the transition probabilities of employment between sectors, using a dynamic multinomial logit framework with fixed effects. The data cover a sample of individual Austrian male workers over the period 1988–2001. Our results strongly support the view that international economic forces are important determinants of labor market turnover. In particular, an increase in the outsourcing intensity negatively affects the probability of staying in or changing into the manufacturing sector, even more so for industries with a comparative disadvantage. 动态面板多项Logit模型
This paper provides moment conditions for dynamic multinomial logit panel data models with individual specific fixed effects. The moment conditions do not depend on the fixed effects and thus form the basis for generalized method of moments estimation. For a leading case, we provide sufficient conditions under which the moment conditions identify the common parameters, and we illustrate their use in an empirical application to household soft drink purchases. The construction…
离散选择面板模型中平均效应的界
In discrete choice panel data, estimation of average effects is crucial for quantifying the effect of covariates, and for policy evaluation and counterfactual analysis. However, in short panels with individual-specific effects, challenges arise due to partial identification and the incidental parameter problem. In particular, estimating the sharp identified set of average effects becomes impractical when covariates have large support sets, such as when they are continuous.…

We develop a framework for identification, computation, and inference in econometric models with a linear-in-measures representation. These models express maintained restrictions as moment conditions linear in the joint probability measure of observed and latent inputs, and map that measure linearly to the distribution of outputs, even with nonlinear outcome equations. We construct an adversarial discrepancy function whose zeros characterize the identified set for structural…

Many models, such as fixed-effect models for panel or network data, are hard to estimate because they feature nuisance parameters that are both numerous and estimated imprecisely. This, in general, causes an incidental-parameter problem in the estimator of the parameters of interest. The problem can be alleviated by working with an estimating equation whose expectation is insensitive to the value of the nuisance parameters. We discuss and contrast three notions of…
内生网络下的半参数动态 Logit 模型
Many choices persist over time and are made among friends. Teenagers who smoke tend to keep smoking, and they tend to have friends who smoke. Part of this persistence is habit, but part may come from characteristics researchers do not observe, such as a taste for risk, that shape both whether a student smokes and whom they befriend. Methods that treat friendships as given cannot separate the two when the characteristic changes over time. This paper shows how the friendship…

Applied econometricians typically model each individual as having fixed outcomes under treatment and control and, in instrumental-variables (IV) settings, fixed treatment decisions under each value of the instrument. This paper asks what changes when outcomes and treatment allocations or choices are stochastic at the individual level. In the model, each individual has a stable (but possibly stochastic) response type consisting of two objects: a treatment choice probability…
