This article considers linear social interaction models under incomplete information that allow for missing outcome data due to sample selection. For model estimation, assuming that each individual forms his/her belief about the other members’ outcomes based on rational expectations, we propose a two-step series nonlinear least squares estimator. Both the consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimator are established. As an empirical illustration, we apply the proposed model and method to National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health) data to examine the impacts of friendship interactions on adolescents’ academic achievements. We provide empirical evidence that the interaction effects are important determinants of grade point average and that controlling for sample selection bias has certain impacts on the estimation results. Supplementary materials for this article are available online.

This paper investigates the construction of moment restrictions in dyadic network formation models with unobserved individual heterogeneity under nontransferable utility. Using observed links and covariates from five-node pentads, we construct moment restrictions that do not depend on individual fixed effects. For a broad class of covariate specifications, the construction is minimal in the sense that it uses the least possible number of nodes and dyads. Based on these…
稀疏双边互动模型中的互补性
This paper studies complementarities in two-sided interaction models when only a sparse subset of potential matches is realized. I introduce the Tukey model, adding one complementarity parameter to two-way fixed effects. Variation within a four-cycle in the observed matching network identifies this parameter, while connectedness permits identification of agent productivities. I propose a cycle-based estimator that avoids estimating latent productivities. The estimator is…

We propose the Polyads estimator, a new method to estimate structural parameters in weighted multi-way networks while controlling for rich, arbitrary structures of fixed effects. The method is based on a series of classification tasks and is agnostic to both the number and structure of fixed effects. Unlike full maximum likelihood, our estimator does not suffer from the incidental parameter problem: it is consistent and satisfies a Central Limit Theorem with no asymptotic…
含内生主导单元的非线性空间动态面板模型:份额数据应用
This article develops a nonlinear spatial dynamic panel data model with one particularly interesting application to a structural interaction model for share data. To account for effects from dominant (popular) units, the spatial weights matrix in our model can allow for unbounded column sums. To account for heterogeneity, our model includes two-way fixed effects and heteroscedastic errors. We further consider the potential endogeneity of the spatial weight matrix constructed…
具有跨期优化的空间动态模型:设定与估计
In this paper, we introduce a dynamic spatial interaction econometric model. There are n forward-looking agents of whom each has a parametric linear-quadratic payoff, and they interact with their neighbors through a spatial network. Considering a Markov perfect equilibrium (MPE), we derive a unique Nash equilibrium equation and construct a new spatial dynamic panel data (SDPD) model. For estimation, we suggest mainly the quasi-maximum likelihood (QML) method. Asymptotic…

In this paper, I characterize the network formation process as a static game of incomplete information, where the latent payoff of forming a link between two individuals depends on the structure of the network, as well as private information on agents' attributes. I allow agents' private unobserved attributes to be correlated with observed attributes through individual fixed effects. Using data from a single large network, I propose a two-step estimator for the model…
