Many economic panel and dynamic models, such as rational behavior and Euler equations, imply that the parameters of interest are identified by conditional moment restrictions. We introduce a novel inference method without any prior information about which conditioning instruments are weak or irrelevant. Building on Bierens (1990), we propose penalized maximum statistics and combine bootstrap inference with model selection. Our method optimizes asymptotic power by solving a data-dependent max-min problem for tuning parameter selection. Extensive Monte Carlo experiments, based on an empirical example, demonstrate the extent to which our inference procedure is superior to those available in the literature.
测度线性表示模型中识别、计算与推断的对抗方法
We develop a framework for identification, computation, and inference in econometric models with a linear-in-measures representation. These models express maintained restrictions as moment conditions linear in the joint probability measure of observed and latent inputs, and map that measure linearly to the distribution of outputs, even with nonlinear outcome equations. We construct an adversarial discrepancy function whose zeros characterize the identified set for structural…

Many statistical and econometric problems involve parameters defined by moments of a joint distribution when only marginal distributions are observed, leading naturally to partial identification. We develop a methodology for identification, estimation, and inference in the corresponding partially identified GMM model. We characterize the sharp identified set for the parameter of interest via a support-function/optimal-transport (OT) representation. To estimate the identified…
动态线性面板模型的 Arellano–Bond LASSO 估计量
The Arellano-Bond estimator is a fundamental method for dynamic panel data models, widely used in practice. It can be severely biased when the time series dimension of the data, $T$, is long. The source of the bias is the large degree of overidentification. We propose a simple two-step approach to deal with this problem. The first step applies LASSO to the cross-section data at each time period to select the most informative moment conditions, exploiting the approximately…

When conducting inference for the average treatment effect on the treated with a Synthetic Control Estimator, the vector of control weights is a nuisance parameter that is often constrained, high-dimensional, and may be only partially identified even when the average treatment effect on the treated is point-identified. All three of these features of a nuisance parameter can lead to failure of asymptotic normality for the estimate of the parameter of interest when using…
内生性面板数据中连续处理效应的双重/去偏机器学习
We propose a double/debiased machine learning framework to estimate average derivative effects in nonparametric panel models with two-way fixed effects. It extends instrumental variable methods to panel settings, handles continuous treatments and various forms of endogeneity, and introduces a cross-fitting scheme to restore independence after eliminating time fixed effects. A penalized GMM debiasing term enables automatic debiased machine learning with endogeneity. Our…

In this paper, we develop methods for statistical inferences in a partially identified nonparametric panel data model with endogeneity and interactive fixed effects. Under some normalization rules, we can concentrate out the large-dimensional parameter vector of factor loadings and specify a set of conditional moment restrictions that are involved with only the finite-dimensional factor parameters along with the infinite-dimensional nonparametric component. For a conjectured…
