We propose a new spectrum matching framework based on universality for high-dimensional covariance inference. The method constructs reference distributions for a broad class of spectral statistics by generating an auxiliary Gaussian matrix whose covariance spectrum matches that of the target covariance, with validity justified by universality. This framework accommodates both known and unknown covariance settings and adapts to different inferential targets, including covariance testing, spike detection, and simultaneous inference for linear functionals of the covariance matrix. Theoretical guarantees are established through anisotropic local laws for general covariance-type random matrices beyond the proportional-growth regime. Numerical studies and a real-data application demonstrate the practical effectiveness of the proposed methodology in high-dimensional settings.
高维线性回归的统一谱分析:去偏与阈值化
We use spectral analysis to establish a unified theory of debiasing, thresholding, and simultaneous inference for high-dimensional linear regression with ill-conditioned designs. The methods include Ridge regression, spectral cut-off, and iterative and dynamical regression procedures. A common debiasing procedure uses two applications of the original linear algorithm with fixed parameters. Spectral analysis shows that debiasing squares the residual, while implementations…
自删失模型下信息性缺失的纵向因果推断
Longitudinal observational data are often subject to informative missingness. For example, in healthcare research using electronic health records, covariates and outcomes are measured only when patients interact with the healthcare system. Whether these data are observed usually depends on the unobserved variable values themselves, introducing a common form of data missing not at random. We develop identification and estimation methods for the effects of longitudinal…
复杂调查设计下的函数型响应对标量协变量回归
Large health surveys increasingly collect high-dimensional functional data from wearable devices, and function on scalar regression (FoSR) is used to quantify the relationship between these functional outcomes and scalar covariates like age and sex. However, existing methods for FoSR fail to account for complex survey design. We introduce inferential methods for FoSR with complex survey designs. The approach combines fast univariate inference (FUI) developed for functional…

Finding which variables cause which others in multivariate time series, and at what lags, is central to science and policy, yet existing methods force a choice between flexible confounder adjustment, data-driven lag selection, and inference that controls the false discovery rate (FDR). ORACLE-VARX does all three in one pipeline. First, double/debiased machine learning (DML) removes nonlinear confounder effects from the outcomes and the lagged series. Second, adaptive causal…
We propose an automatic, general-purpose framework for making discoveries from unstructured data (e.g., text data from open-ended surveys of economic beliefs). The framework leverages recent methods from the literature on AI interpretability to transform unstructured datasets into high-dimensional, structured datasets of interpretable concept measurements; specifies concept-level parameters and null hypotheses based on this transformed dataset; tests these hypotheses using…
面向超高维数据的贝叶斯单变量引导稀疏回归
Ultra-high-dimensional genomic studies require simultaneous identification of sparse signals, control of spurious discoveries, and computationally feasible inference when the number of predictors can reach hundreds of thousands or more. We propose Bayesian Univariate-Guided Sparse Regression (BUGS), a global--local shrinkage framework that incorporates marginal association information directly into the prior through continuous modulation of shrinkage. By embedding univariate…
