The distributions of the common and idiosyncratic components for an individual variable are important in forecasting and applications. However, they are not identified with low-dimensional observations. Using the recently developed theory for large dimensional approximate factor model for large panel data, the common and idiosyncratic components can be estimated consistently. Based on the estimated common and idiosyncratic components, we construct the empirical processes for estimation of the distribution functions of the common and idiosyncratic components. We prove that the two empirical processes are oracle efficient when T = o(p) where p and T are the dimension and sample size, respectively. This demonstrates that the factor and idiosyncratic empirical processes behave as well as the empirical processes pretending that the common and idiosyncratic components for an individual variable are directly observable. Based on this oracle property, we construct simultaneous confidence bands (SCBs) for the distributions of the common and idiosyncratic components. For the first-order consistency of the estimated distribution functions, T=o(p) suffices. Extensive simulation studies check that the estimated bands have good coverage frequencies. Our real data analysis shows that the common-component distribution has a structural change during the crisis in 2008, while the idiosyncratic-component distribution does not change much. 多重结构突变与多因子误差下空间面板模型的收缩估计
This study investigates spatial panel data models with a multifactor error structure and multiple structural breaks occurring in the coefficients of both spatial lagged and explanatory variables. While extensive research has addressed cross-sectional dependence in panel data, including approaches that integrate spatial and factor structures within a single framework, few studies account for time-varying model parameters and achieving consistent estimation remains a…

In this article, we consider estimation of common structural breaks in panel data models with unobservable interactive fixed effects. We introduce a penalized principal component (PPC) estimation procedure with an adaptive group fused LASSO to detect the multiple structural breaks in the models. Under some mild conditions, we show that with probability approaching one the proposed method can correctly determine the unknown number of breaks and consistently estimate the…

We study estimation of the mean slope in heterogeneous panels that combine cross-sectional dependence from unobserved common factors with unit-specific structural breaks occurring at different dates. We organize the available second-generation Mean Group estimators into a regime map indexed by the cross-section size, the strength of the cross-sectional dependence, and the nature of the structural change, and we examine two estimators for the small-to-moderate-dependence…

We review recent developments in detecting and estimating multiple change-points in time series models with exogenous and endogenous regressors, panel data models, and factor models. This review differs from others in multiple ways: (1) it focuses on inference about the change-points in slope parameters, rather than in the mean of the dependent variable - the latter being common in the statistical literature; (2) it focuses on detecting - via sequential testing and other…
结构不稳定下的面板数据协整检验
Spurious regression analysis in panel data when the time series are cross-section dependent is analyzed in the article. The set-up includes (possibly unknown) multiple structural breaks that can affect both the deterministic and the common factor components. We show that consistent estimation of the long-run average parameter is possible once cross-section dependence is controlled using cross-section averages in the spirit of Pesaran's common correlated effects approach. This…
因子增广回归的分位数预测:结构不稳定性与模型不确定性
The quantile regression is an effective tool in modeling data with heterogeneous conditional distribution. This paper considers the time-varying coefficient quantile predictive regression with factor-augmented predictors, to capture smooth structural changes and incorporate high-dimensional data information in prediction simultaneously. Uniform consistency of the local linear quantile coefficient estimators is established under misspecification. To further improve the…
