Modeling the time-varying covariance structures of high-dimensional variables is critical across diverse scientific and industrial applications; however, existing approaches exhibit notable limitations in either modeling flexibility or inferential efficiency. For instance, change-point modeling fails to account for the continuous time-varying nature of covariance structures, while GARCH and stochastic volatility models suffer from over-parameterization and the risk of overfitting. To address these challenges, we propose a Bayesian factor modeling framework designed to enable simultaneous inference of both the covariance structure of a high-dimensional time series and its time-varying dynamics. The associated Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm not only features an exact, closed-form update for the M-step but also is easily generalizable to more complex settings, such as spatiotemporal multivariate factor analysis. We validate our method through simulation studies and real-data experiments using climate and financial datasets.
时间序列与金融计量经济学前沿:概览
Two of the fastest growing frontiers in econometrics and quantitative finance are time series and financial econometrics. Significant theoretical contributions to financial econometrics have been made by experts in statistics, econometrics, mathematics, and time series analysis. The purpose of this special issue of the journal on “Frontiers in Time Series and Financial Econometrics” is to highlight several areas of research by leading academics in which novel methods have…
We analyze 18 quadrillion models for the joint pricing of corporate bond and stock returns. Strikingly, we find that equity and nontradable factors alone suffice to explain corporate bond risk premia once their Treasury term structure risk is accounted for, rendering the extensive bond factor literature largely redundant for this purpose. While only a handful of factors, behavioral and nontradable, are likely robust sources of priced risk, the true latent stochastic discount…
Tensor-BEKK:张量时间序列的条件协方差建模与推断
Modern economic and financial data are increasingly organized as multiway arrays, with observations indexed simultaneously by geographic regions, industrial sectors, asset categories, and other economic characteristics. Representing such data as tensor-valued time series preserves their intrinsic multiway structure. Although substantial effort has been devoted to modeling the conditional mean of tensor-valued time series, comparatively less attention has been paid to their…

State–space models are commonly used in the engineering, economic, and statistical literature. They are flexible and encompass many well-known statistical models, including random coefficient autoregressive models and dynamic factor models. Bayesian analysis of state–space models has attracted much interest in recent years. However, for large scale models, prior specification becomes a challenging issue in Bayesian inference. In this paper, we propose a flexible prior for…
高维因子随机波动模型中的杠杆效应、非对称性与厚尾
We develop a factor stochastic volatility model that incorporates leverage effects, return asymmetry, and heavy tails across all systematic and idiosyncratic model components. Our model leads to a flexible high-dimensional dependence structure that allows for time-varying correlations, tail dependence, and volatility response to both systematic and idiosyncratic return shocks. We develop an efficient Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm for posterior estimation based on the…
通过风险因子映射高效估计高维动态协方差:金融风险管理应用
This paper aims to explore a modified method of high-dimensional dynamic variance–covariance matrix estimation via risk factor mapping, which can yield a dependence estimation of asset returns within a large portfolio with high computational efficiency. The essence of our methodology is to express the time-varying dependence of high-dimensional return variables using the co-movement concept of returns with respect to risk factors. A novelty of the proposed methodology is to…
