Efficient conformal prediction intervals for time series: Online PID-Expert aggregation

For a given point forecaster, proportional-integral-derivative (PID) calibration configurations can attain similar overall coverage yet produce different interval widths. We introduce PID-Expert, an online aggregation method for improving the efficiency of conformal prediction intervals for time series. PID-Expert combines thresholds from a fixed library of PID calibrators, each evolving under its own coverage feedback. Aggregation weights depend on normalized interval width…

Latent-driven Imputation and Forecasting for partially observed Time Series (LIFTS)

Partially observed multivariate time series pose two coupled challenges: recovering missing measurements and forecasting future trajectories when observation patterns are informative. Existing methods often assume ignorable missingness or use the mask only as an auxiliary input. We propose LIFTS (Latent-driven Imputation and Forecasting for partly observed Time Series), a probabilistic framework in which a latent process jointly governs the complete measurement trajectory…

The Whittle likelihood for mixed models with application to groundwater level time series

Understanding the processes that influence groundwater levels is crucial for forecasting and responding to hazards such as groundwater droughts. Mixed models, which combine a fixed mean, expressed using independent predictors, with autocorrelated random errors, are used for inference, forecasting and filling in missing values in groundwater level time series. Estimating parameters of mixed models using maximum likelihood has high computational complexity. For large datasets,…
